The impact of Philosophy for Children (P4C) activities on enhancing the speaking skills of gifted students.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of Philosophy for Children (P4C) activities integrated into Turkish lessons on the speaking skills of gifted students. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected through interviews and various scales, employing a mixed-method design. The results indicated that students had positive feelings about P4C, including appreciation, curiosity, surprise, excitement, self-confidence, and empathy.

The predisposing factors for the development of sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease (SPD) still remain undetermined. Here, we investigate the sacrococcygeal angle as a possible predisposing factor for the development of disease. Consecutive male patients admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of SPD were included.

The role of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate in the repair of traumatic diaphragmatic injuries.

Diaphragmatic injuries either by blunt or penetrating trauma require prompt surgical intervention and are often exigent to repair. N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (n-butyl-2-CA) is a tissue adhesive which has gained wide application in many areas of surgery including emergency. To repair the extensive injuries of the diaphragm it may be necessary the use of synthetic mesh by fixing it with sutures or staples.

Although rare, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) may lead to cardiotoxicity that presents with angina, elevated cardiac enzymes and electrocardiogram (ECG) changes. Coronary vasospasm related to 5-FU is a rare clinical entity in oncological practice and may be seen during both bolus and protracted infusional administration. This toxicity is generally reversible and responds well to conventional anti-angina treatment following discontinuation of infusion.

Purpose: In this study, we investigated the value of fasciocutaneous V-Y advancement flap reconstruction in the treatment of complicated or recurrent sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus.

The role of dura mater and free peritoneal graft in the reinforcement of colon anastomosis.

Anastomotic leakage is the most important complication leading to morbidity and mortality in colorectal surgery. To prevent anastomotic leakage, a number of drugs with different mechanisms of action were tested, and autogenic grafts and various synthetic materials were used for reinforcement of the anastomotic region. In this experimental study aimed at preventing anastomotic leakage and dehiscence, we used dehydrated, lyophilized human dura mater and free peritoneal graft for reinforcement of anastomotic region after primary repair in rats, and investigated whether they are superior to primary anastomosis.

Closure of fascial defect at trocar sites after laparoscopic surgery.

Management of lactational breast abscesses.

The purpose of the present prospective study was to compare incision and drainage against needle aspiration for the treatment of breast abscesses in lactating women. During the 3-year study period, patients with breast abscesses were randomized 1:1 to undergo either incision and drainage (23 patients) or needle aspiration (22 patients). Ultrasound guidance was not used for any of these patients.

A new alloantigen-independent control for chronic allograft nephropathy rat models.

Background: Isografts are used as controls in many transplant experiments. Our laboratory and others have noticed histological changes in control isograft groups of rats similar to allograft groups, suggesting alloantigen-independent factors contributing to chronic allograft nephropathy. However, the isograft model as a nonalloantigen control is flawed because of the potential of unrecognized minor antigen differences between rats.
