We isolated a novel bacterial strain from a prokaryotic consortium associated to the psychrophilic marine ciliate Euplotes focardii, endemic of the Antarctic coastal seawater. The 16S rDNA sequencing and the phylogenetic analysis revealed the close evolutionary relationship to the Antarctic marine bacterium Marinomonas sp. BSw10506 and the sub antarctic Marinomonas polaris.

Multinary chalcogenide semiconductor nanocrystals are a unique class of materials as they offer flexibility in composition, structure, and morphology for controlled band gap and optical properties. They offer a vast selection of materials for energy conversion, storage, and harvesting applications. Among the multinary chalcogenides, Cu-based compounds are the most attractive in terms of sustainability as many of them consist of earth-abundant elements.

Purpose: To describe clinical presentation, morphological features and surgical outcomes of macular hole (MH) secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO).

Method: This prospective interventional study evaluated eight eyes with atypical MH (secondary to RVO) and data regarding medical management, pars plana vitrectomy, postoperative anatomical hole closure, visual acuity improvement, morphological features of hole were noted till the last follow-up.

Results: Eight eyes with full-thickness MH in an RVO eye were followed-up for a minimum period of 3 months postoperatively.

Objectives: The treatment paradigm in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) is evolving toward individualized, risk-directed, and longer duration of therapy (DOT). The objective of this study was to describe treatment patterns and outcomes in non-transplant NDMM in four European countries.

Methods: This retrospective chart review included adults with NDMM diagnosed between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2013 (early cohort), or April 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017 (recent cohort).

Ethanol can be used as a platform molecule for synthesizing valuable chemicals and fuel precursors. Direct synthesis of C ketones, building blocks for lubricants and hydrocarbon fuels, from ethanol was achieved over a stable Pd-promoted ZnO-ZrO catalyst. The sequence of reaction steps involved in the C ketone formation from ethanol was determined.

Introduction: The ORNATE India project is funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Global Challenges Research Fund. The aim is to build research capacity and capability in India and the UK to tackle global burden of diabetes-related visual impairment. As there are over 77 million people with diabetes in India, it is challenging to screen every person with diabetes annually for sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy (DR).

Background: Being derived from primary amine and aromatic aldehyde, Schiff base and their complexes have an imperative role in the improvement of inorganic chemistry, which are broadly studied as coordination compounds and are gradually becoming more important in biochemical and analytical applications.

Methods: They have also been used for antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antitubercular activities. Novel synthesised Schiff's base 2-methoxy-4-((3-methylpyridin-2-ylimino)methyl)phenol (SB) and its metal complexes (Zn[II], Cu[II], Co[II] and Ni[II]) were characterised by UV, IR and NMR spectroscopy.

Approval of daratumumab (DARA), an IgGk1 monoclonal antibody targeting CD38, for the treatment of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma as monotherapy in November 2015 expanded the therapeutic armamentarium for multiple myeloma. Widespread tissue expression of CD38 combined with potent immunomodulatory activity provides a rationale for the expanding use of DARA and potential new marketing authorizations. Novel combinations of DARA have been built on the basis of preclinical data of synergy and overcoming DARA resistance.

In the TOURMALINE-MM3 study, post-autologous stem cell transplantation maintenance therapy with the oral proteasome inhibitor ixazomib versus placebo significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS), with a favorable safety profile. With ixazomib versus placebo maintenance, deepening responses occurred in 139/302 (46%) versus 60/187 (32%) patients with very good partial response or partial response (VGPR/PR) at study entry (relative risk 1.41, P = 0.

Pulmonary toxicity is a well-known adverse reaction of bleomycin. In this study, we investigated the influence of and genetic variants on the development of bleomycin-induced lung injury (BILI) in south Indian patients with Hodgkin lymphoma. Hodgkin lymphoma patients receiving adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine regimen were recruited for the study and BILI was diagnosed based on symptoms and/or radiological signs.

Purpose: To compare the safety and efficacy of 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with either platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap for the treatment of large macular hole.

Methods: Pseudophakic patients with idiopathic macular holes with a minimum diameter (MD) of 600-1500 μm were randomized into two groups (30 patients each): 25-gauge PPV with either inverted ILM flap (group A) or PRP (group B).

Results: Mean MD in groups A and B were 803.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken tragic proportions and has disrupted lives globally. In the wake of governmental lockdowns, ophthalmologists need practical and actionable guidelines based on advisories from national health departments on how to conduct their duties during nationwide lockdowns and after these are lifted. In this paper, we present a preferred practice pattern (PPP) based on consensus discussions between leading ophthalmologists and health care professionals in India including representatives from major governmental and private institutions as well as the All India Ophthalmological Society leadership.

This paper reports the synthesis, characterization, anticancer screening and quantum chemical calculation of a tetradentate Schiff base 2,2'-((1E,1'E)-((2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis- (azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(4-fluorophenol) (L2F) and its Pd (II) complex (PdL2F). The compounds were characterized via UV-Visible, NMR, IR spectroscopy and single crystal x-ray diffraction. Density Functional Theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations in gas and solvent phases were carried out using B3LYP, B3P86, CAM-B3LYP and PBE0 hybrid functionals combined with LanL2DZ basis set.
