Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip: An Examination of Care Practices of Orthopaedic Surgeons in India.

Background: We evaluated screening, referral and treatment practices for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in India by surveying Orthopaedic surgeons who treat patients with DDH. The survey assessed the timing of DDH presentation, resource availability, and current state of screening and diagnosis, which would help in the development of a DDH care pathway for India.

Methods: An online survey was distributed to Orthopaedic surgeons practicing in India via email and administered onsite to those attending the annual conference of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of India in 2019.

A retrospective study of idiopathic clubfoot managed by Ponseti method using Pirani and Dimeglio scoring, in Indian population: a minimum 3-year follow-up.

Severe life-threatening hypersensitivity reaction to polidocanol in a case of recurrent aneurysmal bone cyst.

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) are expansile lytic lesions constituting around 1% of all benign bone tumors with an annual incidence of 1.4/100000. A variety of treatments are available ranging from curettage with or without bone grafting (autologous or allogeneic), curettage with use of adjuvants [Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, high speed burr, phenol, liquid nitrogen], wide en-block excision with or without reconstruction, selective arterial embolization of the feeding vessels, radiation therapy, high precision megavoltage radiotherapy and percutaneous radio-nuclide ablation, sclerotherapy (ethibloc, aetoxisclerol, alcohol gel, polidocanol).

A Case of Non-Traumatic Avascular Necrosis of Femur in Case of Transfusion-Dependent Thalassemia.

Introduction: Avascular necrosis of the head of femur (AVNF) has frequently been reported with sickle cell anemia but is not commonly associated with beta thalassemia.

Case Report: We report a case of 14-year-old male with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) and hepatitis C, who developed bilateral atraumatic AVNF requiring surgical correction. The likely etiopathogenesis and the review of literature for this uncommon finding are discussed.

Outcome of surgical management of developmental dysplasia of hip in children between 18 and 24 months.

Background: Developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) is a common condition presenting to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. There is a consensus on the surgical treatment of children with ages ranged from 18 to 24 months where majority agree on open reduction and hip spica. Open reduction was done with an additional pelvic procedure wherever required to get better results and prevent residual acetabular dysplasia (RAD) and early osteoarthritis.

Management of lower limb deformities in children with osteogenesis imperfecta.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) often leads to severe lower limb (LL) deformities due to recurrent fractures that significantly hamper ambulation. We describe our management experience of correction of LL deformities in four children with OI. Medical management consisted of peri and postoperative pamidronate therapy, calcium supplementation and rehabilitative care.
