Background: Children of people with alcohol dependence (COAs) are at high risk for behavioral and cognitive problems.
Aim: Aim of this study was to compare the nature and extent of these problems in children of men with and without alcohol dependence.
Materials And Methods: 32 children (17 in study group and 15 controls) were evaluated for psychopathology, neurodevelopment, cognitive functioning and family environment.
Introduction: Closed-chest access and closure of direct cardiac punctures may enable a range of therapeutic procedures. We evaluate the safety and feasibility of closing percutaneous direct ventricular access sites using a commercial collagen-based femoral artery closure device.
Methods: Yorkshire swine underwent percutaneous transthoracic left ventricular access (n = 13).
Culture negative endocarditis and aortic root abscess can prove difficult diagnostic challenges. Computed tomography can be extremely useful in this setting. We report a case of an aortic root abscess 3 months after elective aortic valve replacement in which cardiac CT and hybrid imaging with Gallium-67 SPECT complemented workup with transesophageal echocardiography in establishing the diagnosis of an abscess.

Study Design: Patients (from infants to age 21 years) hospitalized with acute pancreatitis (AP), acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP), and chronic pancreatitis were studied retrospectively. Subjects with known DM or cystic fibrosis before presentation with pancreatitis were excluded.
Safe, effective adjuvants that enhance vaccine potency, including induction of neutralizing Abs against a broad range of variant strains, is an important strategy for the development of seasonal influenza vaccines which can provide optimal protection, even during seasons when available vaccines are not well matched to circulating viruses. We investigated the safety and ability of Glucopyranosyl Lipid Adjuvant-Stable Emulsion (GLA-SE), a synthetic Toll-like receptor (TLR)4 agonist formulation, to adjuvant Fluzone® in mice and non-human primates. The GLA-SE adjuvanted Fluzone vaccine caused no adverse reactions, increased the induction of T helper type 1 (T(H)1)-biased cytokines such as IFNγ, TNF and IL-2, and broadened serological responses against drifted A/H1N1 and A/H3N2 influenza variants.

In this regard, we have demonstrated an experimental approach to fabricate polypyrrole/ZnCoO nanorod hybrid systems, using hydrothermal and electropolymerization techniques. The structural property studies on the hydrothermally synthesized Co-doped ZnO nanocrystallites revealed them to be phase pure with rod-like morphology.

The collagen I (Col1) fiber matrix of solid tumors is the major structural part of the ECM. Consequently, identifying cancer stem cells is crucial to our understanding of cancer progression and for the development of novel therapeutic agents. Brachial neuritis is a rare disorder affecting the brachial plexus. It is characterized by the acute onset of shoulder and arm pain followed by weakness, sensory loss and atrophy. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotypes such as impaired E-cadherin expression or aberrant Vimentin induction are associated with enhanced metastasis and unfavorable clinical outcome in breast cancer. Despite this fact, few tumor microenvironment-derived extracellular signaling factors capable of provoking such a phenotypic transition have been identified.
