Pattern-induced flicker colors (PIFCs) are subjective colors that can be elicited with rotation of an achromatic stimulus such as the Benham disk. The perceptive mechanisms underlying PIFCs are not well-understood, but are thought to be generated primarily by retinal cell types which may be dysfunctional in glaucoma. Using a custom computer-based system, we tested PIFC perception across several Benham disk parameters, including the rates of acceleration and deceleration, rotational direction, and image contrast in both control and glaucoma subjects.

Purpose: To evaluate the levels and regulation of tear film inflammatory proteins in contact lens-related dry eye (CLDE).
Methods: One hundred healthy, daily wear (non-overnight), experienced soft contact lens wearers were classified into normal (n = 50) and CLDE (n = 50) groups based on Contact Lens and Dry Eye Questionnaire scores, tear break-up times, and comfort (a two-hour difference between total and comfortable daily lens wear hours). Tear samples (up to 5 μL) were collected by capillary extraction from the inferior meniscus of each eye, and pooled tear samples (10 per group) were tested using a customized Quantibody array.
Background: is an Indian herb used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases such as jaundice, asthma, liver and urinary disorders. However, the anti-cancer potential of on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is poorly understood. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the anti-cancer activity of in HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Therefore, it is necessary to understand the extent of genetic variations that HIV is undergoing in North India. The objective of this study was to determine the role of genetic and functional role of Vif on APOBEC3G degradation.

Methods: The data were derived from subject responses to a compliance survey administered in a cross-sectional study including 100 healthy, daily (nonovernight), experienced soft contact lens wearers (50 normal and 50 with CLDE). Classification into normal or CLDE groups was based on Contact Lens Dry Eye Questionnaire scores, tear breakup time, and 2 hours difference between total and comfortable daily lens wear hours.

Purpose: Tear evaporation should increase fluorescein concentration, causing fluorescence dimming from self-quenching for high but not low fluorescein concentration. This prediction was tested and compared to the predicted effect of "tangential flow" that fluorescence dimming should be similar for high and low concentrations.
Methods: A custom optical system was used for video recording of tear film fluorescence in 30 subjects.
Background: The model of pulse plethysmograph using inhalational salbutamol 400 mcg is studied well to assess endothelium dependent vasodilation. Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene polymorphism may influence the response to salbutamol in healthy subjects.
Aim: To find the effect of polymorphisms 894G>T and -786T>C of eNOS gene on endothelium dependent vasodilation in healthy subjects.
Myocardial infarction (MI) is a complex multi-factorial, polygenic disorder which results from an interaction between a person's genetic makeup and various environmental factors. Nitric oxide (NO), a potent vasodilator produced by endothelial cells, plays an important role in the regulation of blood pressure, regional blood flow and also inhibits platelet aggregation, vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and leukocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium. Our aim was to analyze the association of NOS3 (endothelial nitric oxide synthase 3) 894G>T and -786T>C gene polymorphisms and MI risk in the South Indian population.

Materials And Methods: The whole plant was extracted in n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, methanol, and water. The cells were treated with the extracts at increasing concentrations to find the IC(50), adopting MTT ([3-(4,5 dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide]) assay.
Objectives: With increased interest in the assessment of meibomian gland dysfunction and evaporative dry eye, there remains a deficit in simple, clinically applicable grading scales for gland expression. A new scale to assess meibum expressibility is described.
Methods: A meibum expressibility scale was developed using a new standardized meibomian gland expression device, which provides constant pressure along the inferior lid.

Purpose: To determine the association between material dehydration and hydrogel contact lens material characteristics, including water content and ionicity.
Methods: Water content and refractive index data were derived from automated refractometry measurements of worn hydrogel contact lenses of 318 participants in the Contact Lens and Dry Eye Study (CLADES). Dehydration was determined in two ways; as the difference between nominal and measured (1) water content and (2) refractive index.
Purpose: To examine the effect of general contact lens and material characteristics, care solutions, treatment, and patient-related factors on contact lens-related dry eye.
Methods: The data were derived from the Contact Lens and Dry Eye Study, designed as a cross-sectional and nested case-control study including 360 subjects. In separate statistical models, logistic regression was used to examine general contact lens characteristics, specific hydrogel lens materials, care solutions, and patient-related factors associated with dry eye status (controlled for age, gender, and current treatments).
Ocular mucins are thought to play integral roles in ocular surface lubrication, anchoring of the aqueous, stabilizing the lipid components of the tear film, eliminating foreign bodies and pathogens, and with potential involvement in cell cycle mediation and apoptotic activity of ocular surface epithelia. Ocular mucins are of secreted and membrane-associated types. Secreted mucins may be of large gel-forming type or small soluble mucins (e.
