Article Synopsis
  • History of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is linked to increased periodontal diseases, and treating periodontal issues may help lower RA risks.
  • This study aimed to evaluate how periodontal therapy affects key health markers in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and RA, using a double-blind controlled design.
  • Results showed significant improvements in periodontal health and RA activity metrics for the treatment group, but the therapy did not lower certain antibodies related to RA, indicating mixed outcomes.

Aim: The main aim of the study was to evaluate the systemic markers related to anemia in generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAgP) patients before and after phase I therapy.

Materials And Methods: Based on the inclusion criteria, 15 patients with GAgP were allocated to two groups, group A (before phase I periodontal therapy) and group B (after phase I periodontal therapy). After 3 months, clinical parameters and hematological parameters were reevaluated.

Background: The traditional method of diagnosing periodontitis includes the assessment of clinical parameters and radiographic aids to evaluate the periodontal tissue destruction. Saliva has the potential to be used as the diagnostic fluid for oral disease. This study aimed at comparing the quantitative levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in saliva and serum before and after scaling and root planing in patients with chronic generalized periodontitis.

Aims: The aim of this study was to observe the sequelae of fenugreek adjunctive to nonsurgical periodontal therapy and its comparison to a group treated with scaling and root planing (SRP) and metformin alone by assessing their respective effects on periodontal parameters, glycemic status, and serum lipid levels.

Materials And Methods: The study comprised eighty patients who were further divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 40 patients.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is indicated to play a major function in chronic inflammatory disorders.

Objective: To assess and compare the cytokine level (TNF-α) in the serum of chronic periodontitis (CP), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), RA with CP, and healthy volunteers.

Materials And Methods: This original research was carried out on 80 participants, divided into Group-I 20 RA patients, Group-II 20 CP patients, Group III 20 RA with CP (RA + CP), and Group IV 20 healthy volunteers.

The chief goal of combination therapy using guided tissue regeneration along with bone grafts is to optimally and predictably regenerate the periodontal attachment apparatus. The evolution of regenerative therapy along with careful patient selection and treatment planning can have positive results even in cases which are not ideal. The present case report describes a tooth with a questionable prognosis treated successively by endodontic then periodontal therapy using an amniotic membrane along with a bone graft to treat an intrabony defect.
