Introduction: Metal reaction and pseudotumor formation are very rare complications following ceramic on polyethylene total hip replacement. Pseudotumors have been described in the case of metal on polyethylene as well as in metal on ceramic interfaces. We report the largest pseudotumor formation to be observed after a thorough literature review following ceramic on polyethylene total hip replacement in a case of ankylosing spondylitis and chronic kidney disease.

Fungal Gut Microbiome in Myasthenia Gravis: A Sub-Analysis of the MYBIOM Study.

An altered gut microbiota is a possible contributing pathogenic factor in myasthenia gravis (MG), an autoimmune neuromuscular disease. However, the significance of the fungal microbiome is an understudied and neglected part of the intestinal microbiome in MG. We performed a sub-analysis of the MYBIOM study including faecal samples from patients with MG ( = 41), non-inflammatory neurological disorder (NIND, = 18), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP, = 6) and healthy volunteers (n = 12) by sequencing the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2).

Gut bacterial microbiota in patients with myasthenia gravis: results from the MYBIOM study.

Background: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disease, with gut microbiota considered to be a pathogenetic factor. Previous pilot studies have found differences in the gut microbiota of patients with MG and healthy individuals. To determine whether gut microbiota has a pathogenetic role in MG, we compared the gut microbiota of patients with MG with that of patients with non-inflammatory and inflammatory neurological disorders of the peripheral nervous system (primary endpoint) and healthy volunteers (secondary endpoint).

Introduction: Homocystinuria has a wide range of clinical presentations ranging from near normal intelligence and appearance with just lens dislocation and minimal skeletal deformities to severe mental retardation with gross skeletal deformities. In this background, we describe one such case with skeletal deformity managed comprehensively.

Case Report: A 17-year-old boy presented with complaints of deformity of the left lower limb since childhood more evident for the past 5 years along with a history of blurring of vision.

A 26-year-old male driver presented with a history of pain in the neck for the past 1 week following trauma due to a road traffic accident. The patient had no neurological deficit. He had type 1 diabetes and was on regular oral hypoglycemics.

'Bone within bone appearance' in a pathological fracture.

A 60-year-old man presented to our hospital with complaints of pain and deformity on his right thigh for the past 2 days following a history of accidental slip and fall. Radiological investigations suggested a pathological type 2 Seinsheimer subtrochanteric fracture of the right femur with a 'bone within bone' appearance, which posed a diagnostic dilemma as this radiological appearance is seen in a spectrum of conditions. Radiographic skeletal survey failed to identify a similar appearance elsewhere in the body.

Recurrence-free management of type 2 variant of giant cell tumour of extensor tendon sheath of thumb.

A 30-year-old woman presented with swelling in her right thumb of 3-month duration which was slow-growing in nature without a history of trauma. On examination, firm non-tender swelling with ill-defined border over the dorsomedial aspect of the first metacarpal was noted. The swelling was mobile only in the vertical plane with restricted adduction and abduction.

Characterization of β-Cryptoxanthin and Other Carotenoid Derivatives from Rhodotorula taiwanensis, A Novel Yeast Isolated from Traditional Starter Culture of Assam.

The present investigation was intended to characterize pigments for the first time from Rhodotorula taiwanensis (LC011412) yeast isolated from the ethic fermentation starter culture source meant to evaluate its carotenoid contents for beneficial applications. The pigments were extracted by an optimized solvent system, purified by flash chromatography and were identified by TLC and UV/VIS spectroscopy. The absorbance spectra confirmed the presence of β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, torulene and torularhodin that showed maximum absorbance (λ ) within the ranges.

Unlabelled: Non-traumatic vertebral fractures occurring as a sole consequence of the violent muscle forces generated during the first episode of a GTCS(generalized tonic clonic seizure) in a previously healthy non-epileptic individual are very rare. Being clinically asymptomatic they are easily overseen at the time of initial presentation due to their rarity of occurrence and the presence of potentially distracting factors in the post-ictal phase. We present a 52-year-old healthy non-epileptic male who presented with unrelenting back pain and neurodeficit secondary to a four-month-old unstable burst fracture of the first lumbar vertebra sustained during an isolated single episode of a witnessed GTCS.

in Cancer Prevention: An Overview.

Carica papaya is an essential medicinal plant having anticancer activities through diverse mechanisms and is not so far thoroughly investigated. In this review, we have summarized the systematic research outputs of different parts of the papaya plant extracts and elaborated the role of its phytochemicals, anticancer activities, therapeutic targets and mechanisms. Several phenolic compounds have been identified from this plant.

Anvaya is a workflow environment for automated genome analysis that provides an interface for several bioinformatics tools and databases, loosely coupled together in a coordinated system, enabling the execution of a set of analyses tools in series or in parallel. It is a client-server workflow environment that has an advantage over existing software as it enables extensive pre & post processing of biological data in an efficient manner. "Anvaya" offers the user, novel functionalities to carry out exhaustive comparative analysis via "custom tools," which are tools with new functionality not available in standard tools, and "built-in PERL parsers," which automate data-flow between tools that hitherto, required manual intervention.

Signals for a transition from surface to bulk emission in thermal multifragmentation.

Excitation-energy-gated two-fragment correlation functions have been studied between E(*)/A = (2-9)A MeV for equilibriumlike sources formed in 8-10 GeV/c pi(-) and p+197Au reactions. Comparison with an N-body Coulomb-trajectory code shows an order of magnitude decrease in the fragment emission time in the interval E(*)/A = (2-5)A MeV, followed by a nearly constant breakup time at higher excitation energy. The decrease in emission time is strongly correlated with the onset of multifragmentation and thermally induced radial expansion, consistent with a transition from surface-dominated to bulk emission expected for spinodal decomposition.
