Background: Empowerment research has largely focused on adult women with little focus on younger adolescents. Additionally, despite recognition that empowerment is a process, few studies have longitudinally explored its development.

Background: Although menstruation is a monthly biological phenomenon, it is shrouded in stigma and shame which directly impacts health, education, gender equality, decent work, and economic growth. However, there is scarce evidence on how personal agency, an individual's ability to access resources, may act as a protective factor to adequate menstrual health and hygiene practices. Therefore, we assess the association between attitudes toward menstruation and personal agency among very young adolescent girls.

Purpose: To create a set of criteria to assess facilitators and barriers to implementation among gender transformative interventions that target very young adolescents (VYAs) across different cultural settings.

Methods: Interventionists and researchers involved in the Global Early Adolescent Study created a Theory of Change (ToC) based on summarizing intervention components from five different gender transformative intervention curricula. Embedded within the ToC is a set of criteria labeled, 'Conditions of Success' which were developed to illustrate that change cannot happen unless interventions are implemented successfully.

Purpose: We explore three dimensions of parent-adolescent relationships (sexual and reproductive health (SRH) communications, connectedness, and parental monitoring) from the perspective of young adolescents as they relate to pregnancy knowledge and family planning service awareness in four diverse geographic areas ranging from low to high income settings and stratified by sex.

Methods: Analyses utilized baseline data from four Global Early Adolescent Study sites (Shanghai, China; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo; Denpasar and Semarang, Indonesia; and New Orleans, United States). Multiple linear regressions were conducted to assess the relationships between key characteristics of parent-adolescent relationships and pregnancy knowledge.

COVID-19 has caused profound health, social, educational and economic devastation around the world, especially among the lives of adolescents in low- and middle-income countries. This paper looks at a wide array of outcomes impacting adolescents' daily lives including health (mental, physical, sexual and reproductive health, vaccine perceptions and overlap between these topics), social relationships (family and peer), education and socio-economic disparities. Both scientific and grey literature between December 2019 and February 2022 were sought from PubMed, Google Scholar and organisations conducting research among adolescents, and coded.

Background: Interpersonal violence has physical, emotional, educational, social, and economic implications. Although there is interest in empowering young people to challenge harmful norms, there is scant research on how individual agency, and, specifically, the "power to" resist or bring about an outcome relates to peer violence perpetration and victimization in early adolescence. This manuscript explores the relationship between individual agency and peer violence perpetration and victimization among very young adolescents (VYAs) living in two urban poor settings in sub-Saharan Africa (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Blantyre, Malawi).

Initiation of menstruation is often associated with secrecy and silence, leading to menstruation-related restrictions enforced by various structural and social factors. Most of the research investigating menstruation-related restrictions has been conducted in low- and middle-income countries. It is unknown 1) which populations in the United States and Canada may face menstruation-related restrictions, and 2) what type of restrictions are practiced by these populations.

Background: Melanoma in-transit metastases (ITMs) are a challenge to treat and associated with systemic disease and poor prognosis. Topical diphencyprone (DPCP), a potent contact sensitizer, is an established treatment for melanoma ITMs. This exploratory study investigated the utility of BRAF mutation status, CD8, PD-1, PD-L1, and TILs distribution as biomarkers for response of ITMs to topical immunotherapy (DPCP).

Background: The last decade has highlighted how menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is a public health issue because of its link to health, education, social justice and human rights. However, measurement of MHM has not been validated across different studies. The objective of this manuscript was to test the psychometric properties of a MHM scale.

Background: Interventions in India to improve menstrual health and hygiene management (MHHM) have been implemented at the national, state, district and school level. However, evaluations of these interventions have been scarce. The objective of the study was to determine if a social and behavioral change communication (SBCC) intervention (GARIMA) had a relationship with knowledge, attitudes, interpersonal communication, restrictions and MHHM using a comparison group post-test only design among 2206 adolescent girls.

HIV status disclosure is a key support strategy to start and maintain HIV care and treatment and to reduce HIV transmission. We explored the patterns and correlates of disclosure and described the effectiveness of nurse-facilitated disclosure among HIV-infected mothers of infants in coastal Tanzania. We enrolled 400 HIV positive women in an observational longitudinal study in 2011, interviewed them about maternal sociodemographic and economic characteristics, maternal and child health and history of HIV disclosure experiences and offered nurse-facilitated HIV disclosure at enrolment or at follow-up 1 month later.

Given their established analgesic properties, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) represent an important postoperative pain management option. This study investigated: (1) the effects of mild or moderate renal insufficiency and mild hepatic impairment on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of diclofenac and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) following administration of the injectable NSAID HPβCD-diclofenac; and (2) the PK of HPβCD following administration of HPβCD-diclofenac and intravenous itraconazole formulated with HPβCD in healthy adults. Diclofenac clearance (CL) and volume of distribution (V ) tended to increase with decreasing renal function (moderate insufficiency versus mild insufficiency or healthy controls).
