Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and asthma frequently coexhist in children leading to the unified airway theory. Although obesity has been associated with CRS and asthma in adults, studies exploring that association in children are limited. The goal of this study was to evaluate the association between obesity and the unified airway in children.

Article Synopsis
  • Climate change is increasing the health risks posed by zoonotic parasites like the liver fluke, Fasciola, especially in Upper Egypt, where its life cycle is climate-dependent.
  • A study from September 2018 to March 2023 analyzed 303 Fasciola cases, finding strong correlations between rising temperatures, humidity levels, and the prevalence of fascioliasis.
  • The research indicates that local climate conditions significantly influence fascioliasis outbreaks, emphasizing the need for a climate-based model to predict future occurrences and improve control measures.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the roles of long noncoding RNAs (NEAT1), microRNAs (miR-21), and cytokine (IL-17) in Behçet's disease (BD) by comparing their levels in Egyptian BD patients to healthy individuals.
  • - Findings revealed that NEAT1 and miR-21 were downregulated and IL-17 was upregulated in BD patients, with IL-17 showing significant correlations with certain disease manifestations and treatments.
  • - The research suggests that these molecules could be important in understanding BD's pathogenesis, indicating a need for further studies to explore their potential as biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

Maximizing Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is an essential technique in photovoltaic (PV) systems that guarantees the highest potential conversion of sunlight energy under any irradiance changes. Efficient and reliable MPPT technique is a challenge faced by researchers due to factors such as fluctuations in irradiance and the presence of partial shading. This paper introduced a novel hybrid Equilibrium Slime Mould Optimization (ESMO) MPPT-based algorithm combining the advantages of two recent algorithms, Slime Mould Optimization (SMO) and Equilibrium Optimizer (EO).

Prior studies showed that female patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) suffer a worse disease-specific quality of life (QoL).  The aim of this study is to investigate gender differences in sinonasal QoL outcomes in patients requiring endoscopic endonasal skull base surgeries (EESBS).  Cross-sectional analysis of patients presenting to our clinic from August 2020 to December 2022 with skull base tumors, spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea, or Grave's orbitopathy (for orbital decompression) was performed.

Background: There is clear evidence that prevalence of primary antibody deficiency (PAD) is higher in children with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) than in the general population. The purpose of this multi-institutional and multidisciplinary evidence-based review with recommendations (EBRR) is to thoroughly review the literature on rhinosinusitis with PAD, summarize the existing evidence, and provide recommendations on the evaluation and management of rhinosinusitis in children with PAD.

Methods: The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were systematically reviewed from inception through December 2023.

Purpose: The local management approach for node-positive breast cancer has undergone substantial evolution. Consequently, there exists a pressing need to enhance our treatment strategies by placing greater emphasis on planning and dosimetric factors, given the availability of more conformal techniques and delineation criteria, achieving optimal goals of radiotherapy treatment. The primary aim of this article is to discuss how the extent of regional nodal coverage influences the choice between IMRT and 3D radiation therapy for patients.

The current study inspects the therapeutic effects of orally ingested insulin-loaded chitosan nanobeads (INS-CsNBs) with a pectin-dextrin (PD) coating on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in Wistar rats. The study also assessed antioxidant effects in pancreatic tissue homogenate, insulin, C-peptide, and inflammatory markers interleukin-1 beta and interleukin-6 (IL-1β and IL-6) in serum. Additionally, histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of insulin granules, oxidative stress, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB P65), and sirtuin-1 (SIRT-1) protein detection, as well as gene expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl2), and Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) in pancreatic tissue were investigated.

The current study integrates remote sensing, machine learning, and physicochemical parameters to detect hydrodynamic conditions and groundwater quality deterioration in non-rechargeable aquifer systems. Fifty-two water samples were collected from all water resources in Siwa Oasis and analyzed for physical (pH, T°C, EC, and TDS) chemical (SO , HCO , NO , Cl, CO , SiO, Mg, Na, Ca, and K), and trace metals (AL, Fe, Sr, Ba, B, and Mn). A digital elevation model supported by machine learning was used to predict the change in the land cover (surface lake area, soil salinity, and water logging) and its effect on water quality deterioration.

Article Synopsis
  • The study critiques the current classification of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) into STEMI and NSTEMI, stating it doesn't adequately capture the complexities of acute coronary syndromes.
  • It proposes a new framework called occlusion myocardial infarction (OMI) and non-occlusion myocardial infarction (NOMI) to improve diagnosis and management methods for AMI.
  • The research emphasizes the importance of quick ECG assessments and immediate treatments for OMI cases, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and encouraging further investigation in the cardiology field.

Purpose: To evaluate the association, if any, between the grade of the trophectoderm (TE) and the rate at which β-human-chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) rises in early pregnancy.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study including 1116 singleton clinical pregnancies resulting from in vitro fertilization with single day 5 blastocyst transfer at an academic fertility center. TE quality was assessed by trained embryologists employing standard criteria.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests that autoimmune disorders and their immunomodulating medications may increase the risk of rhinosinusitis. The goal of this study is to determine if autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases are associated with increased risk of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) in children.

Methods: A retrospective case-control study of pediatric patients (age 2-18 years) seen in the West Virginia University Hospitals System in the past 10 years was performed.

One of the most common features of many different clinical conditions is pain; hence, there is a crucial need for eliminating or reducing it to a tolerable level to retrieve physical, psychological and social functioning. A first derivative synchronous spectrofluorimetry technique is proposed for the simultaneous determination of celecoxib and tramadol HCl, a recent coformulation authorized for treating acute pain in adults. The method includes using synchronous spectrofluorimetry at ∆λ = 80 nm where tramadol HCl was determined using first derivative technique at λ = 230.
