Background: Skin lightening products (SLPs) are popular among women for medical and non-medical reasons. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the extent of SLP use among women, identify their sources of information, explore factors associated with SLP use and SLP related knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among women in the UAE.

Methods: A structured questionnaire in English and Arabic was distributed to women in the UAE.

Background: Biotin-thiamine-responsive basal ganglia disease (BTBGD) is a rare autosomal recessive neurometabolic disorder that is caused by biallelic pathogenic SLC19A3 variants and is characterized by subacute encephalopathy associated with confusion, convulsions, dysphagia, dysarthria, or other neurological manifestations.

Methods: A retrospective review of the data registry in Kuwait Medical Genetics Center for all cases diagnosed clinically and radiographically and confirmed genetically with BTBGD.

Results: Twenty one cases from 13 different families were diagnosed with BTBGD in Kuwait.

Methods: Influence scores for the topic "radiology" on Twitter (now known as X) were computed using the Right Relevance machine learning service.

In this study, point and interval estimations for the power Rayleigh distribution are derived using the joint progressive type-II censoring technique. The advancements in the cell culture studies have led to the development of regenerative medicine concept. The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of some washing solutions, including phosphate buffered saline (PBS), sodium chloride (NaCl), and ringer's lactate (RL) on the rate of detachment and confluency in fibroblast and osteoblast cell culture. Baby Hamster Kidney 21 clone 13 (BHK21/C13) fibroblast cells and 7F2 osteoblast were cultured on T25 flasks for 3-4 days.

Objectives: Regaining and maintaining sternal stability are key to recovery after cardiac surgery and resuming baseline quality of life. Montage (ABYRX) is a moldable, calcium phosphate-based putty that adheres to bleeding bone, hardens after application, and is resorbed and replaced with bone during the remodeling process. We evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of enhanced sternal closure with this novel putty to accelerate recovery in patients after sternotomy.

Muslim women often find their religious customs at odds with their healthcare needs, such as regular gynecological check-ups and cervical cancer screenings, especially before marriage. Religious beliefs may also affect beliefs about gender roles, illness, and death, affecting seeking healthcare services. This retrospective study explored the differences in care-seeking related to cancer between Muslim women and the general female population at the Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States between 2010 and 2019.

Physiological testosterone replacement effects on male aged rats with orchiectomy-induced osteoporosis in advanced stage: a tomographic and biomechanical pilot study.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of physiological testosterone replacement on male aged rats with orchiectomy-induced osteoporosis in advanced stage. Thirty male rats (, Holtzman lineage) were randomly distributed into 3 groups ( = 10): 1-sham, 2-orchiectomy (OCX), 3-OCX + testosterone replacement (OCX + T). On day 0, a sham or orchiectomy surgery was performed according to the groups.

In this study, uranium extraction using n-dodecane solvent containing tributylphosphate extractant in a membrane contactor was investigated. Early Diagnosis of Classic Homocystinuria in Kuwait through Newborn Screening: A 6-Year Experience.

Kuwait is a small Arabian Gulf country with a high rate of consanguinity and where a national newborn screening program was expanded in October 2014 to include a wide range of endocrine and metabolic disorders. A retrospective study conducted between January 2015 and December 2020 revealed a total of 304,086 newborns have been screened in Kuwait. Six newborns were diagnosed with classic homocystinuria with an incidence of 1:50,000, which is not as high as in Qatar but higher than the global incidence.

Impact of citrus flavonoid supplementation on inflammation in lipopolysaccharide-induced periodontal disease in mice.

In general, the consumption of flavonoid-rich foods may influence the control/dysregulation of the magnitude and duration of inflammation and oxidative stress, which are known to contribute to multiple pathologies. Information regarding the impact of citrus flavonoid dietary supplementation on periodontal disease is still scarce. Herein, we investigated whether a diet supplemented with eriocitrin and eriodictyol could alter the course of the inflammatory response associated with LPS-induced periodontal disease in mice.

Establishment of reference intervals of clinical chemistry analytes for the adult population in Egypt.

Background: This is the first Egyptian nationwide study for derivation of reference intervals (RIs) for 34 major chemistry analytes. It was conducted as a part of the global initiative by the IFCC Committee on Reference Intervals and Decision Limits (C-RIDL) for establishing country-specific RIs based on a harmonized protocol.

Methods: 691 apparently healthy volunteers aged ≥18 years were recruited from multiple regions in Egypt.

Association between circulating zinc/ferritin levels and parent Conner's scores in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

ADHD is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders among children and adolescents. In this prospective study, we aimed to measure circulating zinc and ferritin levels in children with ADHD, pick up the deficient ones to give zinc and iron supplements then compare before and after treatment according to their Conner's scores and Wecsler IQ test. Current study included fifty children diagnosed as having ADHD by DSMV criteria, their zinc and ferritin levels were measured by Colorimetric method and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) respectively.

Materials And Methods: RECK gene rs10814325 SNP was estimated, using real-time PCR technique, in 30 HCC patients on top of chronic HCV infection, 30 HCV related cirrhotic patients and 30 healthy controls.

Background And Study Aims: Mutations within the major hydrophilic region (MHR) of the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) have been reported in relation to viral persistence by evasion from vaccine and immunotherapy, severity of liver disease and lack of detection by commercial kits. The aim of this study was to elucidate the circulation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes, subgenotypes and serotypes in Egypt, with recognition of the pattern and prevalence of MHR mutations possibly occurring during the course of the disease.

Patients And Methods: Eighty-eight samples from patients with chronic HBV infection were included in the study.
