Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective study of 183 adult patients treated with rituximab for podocytopathies showed that 82% achieved complete or partial remission within 6 months.
  • *Long-term follow-up revealed that 55% of initial responders maintained relapse-free survival over three years, with improved outcomes linked to maintenance therapy.
  • *Patients on maintenance therapy experienced significantly fewer relapses per year and maintained stable kidney function compared to non-responders.

Background: The ACR in 2021 and the EULAR in 2022 published recommendations for management of ANCA-associated vasculitis. Given the differences in the demographic, clinical profiles, and the socio-economic realities between various countries, there is a need for development of guidelines for the management of AAV for less economically developed regions of the world.

Methods: These guidelines were made following the GRADE methodology.

Background: Microalbuminuria is associated with several clinical conditions of public health concern. Particularly in diabetic patients, there is routine microalbuminuria screening to understand whether the renal complication has progressed to the microalbuminuria stage or not. Therefore, microalbuminuria detection is a matter of considerable interest.

Background: Fluoroscopy is considered to be the gold standard and an essential requirement for catheter insertion. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the outcomes in ultrasound (USG)-guided insertion with and without fluoroscopy. We compared the complications of USG-guided tunneled dialysis catheter (TDC) insertion with and without fluoroscopy assistance.

Introduction: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) rarely coexist with systemic thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA).The TMA can be in the form of either hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). This review explores the clinical characteristics, histopathological findings, treatment options, and outcomes in patients presenting as AAV with coexisting HUS/TTP.

There is evidence to suggest that M-type phospholipase A2 (PLA2R) antibodies activate the mannose-binding lectin (MBL) cascade, resulting in glomerular damage and proteinuria in patients with primary membranous nephropathy (PMN). Furthermore, there are few reports indicating that aberrant MBL activation is associated with endothelial dysfunction and accelerated atherosclerosis. While PMN is a common cause of adult nephrotic syndrome, and patients are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), there is a lack of research that explores the factors that contribute to this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is an autoimmune disease causing nephrotic syndrome mainly in middle-aged non-diabetic adults, where the IL-23/IL-17 immune pathway's role in PMN has not been previously studied.
  • A study analyzed 189 PMN patients and 100 healthy controls, revealing significantly elevated IL-17 levels in PMN patients compared to controls, but not for IL-23; the findings suggest a possible link between these cytokines and the disease's pathogenesis.
  • Further research is needed to explore the role of the IL-23/IL-17 axis along with immune cell involvement and external factors in PMN patients, particularly those who do not respond to treatment.

Organ transplantation is the primary therapy for organ failure caused by telomere biology disorder (TBD). We describe the first documented case of simultaneous liver and kidney transplantation (SLKTx) for TBD, although the diagnosis of TBD was reached only three months following SLKTx. The patient was born prematurely, displayed growth retardation, and developed chronic kidney and liver diseases.

Objectives: Respiratory tract infections are life-threatening infections in solid-organ transplant recipients that pose risk to the graft and to the patient. This study was undertaken to examine the clinical and microbiological spectrum of pneumonia in renal transplant recipients.

Materials And Methods: Of 400 consecutive renal transplant recipients, 87 recipients (21.

Article Synopsis
  • * The timeline of infections post-transplant indicates that bacterial infections dominate initially, with viral and fungal infections becoming more prevalent later, and opportunistic infections usually occurring within the first 6 months.
  • * To effectively manage infection risks, it is essential to consider factors like time since transplant, patient history, and local infection trends, leading to a need for tailored regional guidelines for screening and prevention.

Introduction: Drug-induced acute kidney injury (DI-AKI) is a frequent adverse event. The identification of DI-AKI is challenged by competing etiologies, clinical heterogeneity among patients, and a lack of accurate diagnostic tools. Our research aims to describe the clinical characteristics and predictive variables of DI-AKI.

This study focuses on the synchronization analysis of Hindmarsh-Rose neurons coupled through a common memristor (coupled mHRN). Initially, we thoroughly examine the synchronization of two mHRNs coupled via a common memristor before exploring synchronization in a network of mHRNs. The stability of the proposed model is analyzed in three cases, demonstrating the existence of a single equilibrium point whose stability is influenced by external stimuli.

Background And Aim: Primary glomerular disease accounts for one-sixth of all chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) in India. We remain limited in our ability to effectively treat these conditions because of lack of understanding of the disease mechanisms and lack of predictors to identify the clinical course and therapeutic responsiveness. We propose to develop a network of investigators in glomerular diseases, collect information in a systematic fashion to understand the clinical outcomes, answer translational research questions better, and identify and recruit patients for clinical trials.

Aim: This cross-sectional survey aimed to determine the prevalence of Interventional Nephrology (IN) practice amongst nephrologists in the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), specifically related to dialysis access (DA).

Methods: The Association of VA and intervenTionAl Renal physicians (AVATAR) Foundation from India conducted a multinational online survey amongst nephrologists from the Asia-Pacific to determine the practice of IN in the planning, creation, and management of dialysis access. The treatment modalities, manpower and equipment availability, monthly cost of treatment, specifics of dialysis access interventions, and challenges in the training and practice of IN by nephrologists were included in the survey.
