Article Synopsis
  • Exercise training is increasingly recognized as a valuable addition to medical treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), but the metabolic changes it induces are not well understood.
  • The study involved male Wistar rats, which were divided into four groups, with some undergoing treadmill exercise for five weeks to analyze metabolic effects.
  • Results indicated significant alterations in lipid and amino acid metabolism due to PAH, but exercise helped restore normal levels of arginine and homocysteine, potentially improving PAH outcomes.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) remains greatly underutilized, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). It is therefore important to explore factors that contribute to this, as perceived by health-care professionals (HCPs).

Research Design And Methods: This was a qualitative study using in-depth interviews that enrolled 18 HCPs (i.

Coronary sinus (CS) anomalies, although infrequent, are increasingly diagnosed with advances in interventional procedures and imaging techniques. Most cases are asymptomatic and incidentally diagnosed. We present a case of an elderly male without comorbidities who presented with acute angina.

Background And Aims: Ultrasonography-guided left cardiac sympathetic denervation (LCSD) or bilateral cardiac sympathetic denervation (BCSD) may be a useful intervention in the electrical storm (ES) that persists despite pharmacological therapy. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasonography-guided LCSD or BCSD in the acute control of ES. We conducted a retrospective case series of patients who underwent ultrasonography-guided CSD for control of ES at a tertiary care hospital.

Purpose: Given that previous reviews on exercise training in pulmonary hypertension (PH) were largely based on a small number of randomized controlled trials (RCT), their conclusions are subject to bias. This review sought to identify the impact of exercise training on functional capacity and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in PH using advanced statistical approaches such as meta-analysis by stratification according to study design.

Review Methods: Five databases were searched from January 2015 to April 2020 to update a previous review.

Women are underrepresented in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) despite the benefits, and this is exacerbated in lower-resource settings where CR is insufficiently available. In this randomized controlled trial, the effectiveness of the Technology-based Comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Therapy (TaCT) electronic cardiac rehabilitation (eCR) intervention on functional capacity, risk factors, quality of life, heart-health behaviors, symptoms, and morbidity will be tested among women with CVD in a middle-income country. Following a pilot study, a single-center, single-blinded, 2 parallel-arm (1:1 SNOSE) superiority trial comparing an eCR intervention (TaCT) to usual care, with assessments pre-intervention and at 3 and 6 months will be undertaken.

Background: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a common yet a largely underdiagnosed entity in developing countries. It is one treatable condition that is known to adversely affect the mortality and morbidity in heart failure (HF). This study is one of the first attempts aimed at studying SDB in chronic HF patients from an Indian subcontinent.

Purpose: Cardiac rehabilitation is an important intervention for patients with heart failure. However, its clinical application in acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) remains underutilized with limited research available. An assessment of current research in this area will help guide future investigations.

The relationship between QT prolongation and myocardial ischemia is well known, however not many studies have correlated corrected QT interval and heart rate recovery with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). This was a single-center, prospective, observational study which included 127 patients with CAD and 124 patients without CAD. Corrected QT variability from peak to recovery correlated well with CAD with a p value of 0.

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is underutilised across the world and India. The use of simple algorithms is one way to facilitate CR, however, these algorithms need to be feasible to use across low resource settings. The objectives were to assess the feasibility of a CR algorithm following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of home-based exercise training (HBET) on function and quality of life (QoL) in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH).

Methods: A prospective, nonblinded, randomized clinical trial was carried out on 84 medically stable patients with PH belonging to any functional class or etiology and of either sex. Patients were randomized to either standard care or HBET.

Aims: The aim of this study is to compare tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) in pre- and postoperative valvular heart surgery patients using M-mode imaging, to determine changes in tissue Doppler parameters among patients undergoing valvular heart surgery, and to analyze tissue deformation parameters of right ventricle (RV) and RV strain in pre- and postoperative patients.

Materials And Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional, single-center study that included 24 patients who underwent echocardiographic assessment prior to surgery, after surgery, and at 1-month follow-up. Assessment of left and right ventricles by M-mode echocardiography, evaluation of RV by 2D Doppler echocardiography, tissue Doppler imaging, and strain imaging were performed.

The anomalous origin of the entire coronary system from the right coronary sinus is a very rare anomaly. Here a patient with this rare anomaly, who developed acute coronary syndrome, requiring revascularization, is presented and treated successfully. His coronary angiographic findings are also discussed.

Innominate vein stenosis or thrombotic occlusion can occur in dialysis patients. Central vein stenosis is a common problem in patients on dialysis. Placement of a central vein catheter for dialysis access increases the risk of central vein stenosis.

The response of derived parameters from six-minute walk distance (6MWD), like 6MW work (6MWW), to exercise training and its correlation with quality of life (QoL) in congestive heart failure (CHF) is not known. In this era of an ever increasing number of interventions in cardiology, there is a parallel increase in the number of complications associated with these interventions, such as broken catheter tip and guide wire embolisation. The most commonly used and effective method for the percutaneous retrieval of such broken fragments is a goose neck snare. However in cases where this technique has been a failure, newer and novel innovations have been implemented for the retrieval of such broken fragments.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) causes profound functional limitations and poor quality of life. Yet, there is only a limited literature available on the role of exercise training. This paper systematically reviews the effects of exercise training on exercise capacity in PAH.
