Introduction: Salvage arthroplasty for failed proximal femoral fracture fixation is a complex procedure. This involves the removal of the primary failed or broken implant followed by a hip joint replacement procedure. The complications and technical difficulties associated with these surgeries are often difficult to anticipate.

Introduction Supracondylar fractures are common in children. Percutaneous K-wire fixation is an accepted standard treatment for displaced supracondylar fractures in children, but the ideal wire configuration remains controversial. This study aimed to review the radiographic outcome and complications of Gartland type II and type III supracondylar fractures treated by the crossed and lateral K-wire fixation.

Article Synopsis
  • Total hip replacement indications are expanding beyond osteoarthritis to include trauma and pathological fractures in active patients, leading to more complications like periprosthetic femoral fractures.
  • A case study of a 71-year-old woman highlights challenges in treating these fractures due to factors like poor bone quality, infection, and stress fractures after her hip replacement.
  • After multiple interventions including internal fixation and bone grafting, the patient eventually regained her mobility 13 months post-surgery, but complications such as implant failure and nonunion were significant hurdles in her recovery.

Introduction: Exposure to lead in excess of the permissible limit is a known risk factor leading to preventable morbidity. The present study aimed to assess whether there is a change in the neurological and renal parameters among adults with blood lead levels (BLLs) higher than recommended at baseline and after prevention among differently exposed adults.

Methodology: In the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India, a cohort study was carried out in 2022-2023 among 180 adult males and females aged 20 to 60 years in three groups: direct occupational exposure, indirect occupational exposure, and no occupational exposure.

Background: Distal biceps tears are uncommon injuries, typically leading to significant loss of elbow flexion and supination strength; surgical repairs restore muscular strength and endurance. The aim of this study was to compare the complication rate of early (< 21 days) vs delayed (> 21 days) repair and the effect of types of incision and fixation methods used in the repair.

Methods: A total of 86 cases were retrospectively reviewed, and 66 cases were included in the study after exclusion.

Background: Supracondylar fracture is the most common elbow fracture in children. These fractures can be associated with significant complications, including nerve injury, vascular compromise, compartment syndrome and clinical deformity. The British Orthopaedic Association Standards for Trauma (BOAST) provide clear and comprehensive guidance for managing the supracondylar fracture.

Introduction: Although not definitive, there is small increased risk of acute pancreatitis with the use of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4i). Hence, there is an interest in the elevation of pancreatic enzymes among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients using DPP4i. However, the studies regarding their association are limited and provide conflicting results.

The search for suitable materials for carbon dioxide capture and storage has attracted the attention of the scientific community in view of the increased global CO levels and its after-effects. Among the different materials under research, porous carbons and their doped analogues are extensively debated for their ability to store carbon dioxide at high pressures. The present paper examined high-pressure carbon dioxide storage studies of 1-D hexagonal and 3-D cubic ordered mesoporous pristine and N-doped carbons prepared using the nano-casting method.

Herein, we report a single-step synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical performance of nano-sized LiFePO (LFP)-embedded 3D-cubic mesoporous carbon (CSI-809) and nitrogenous carbon (MNC-859) composites. Furthermore, in order to investigate the effects of both CSI-809 and MNC-859 on the electrochemical characteristics of LFP, a systematic study was performed on the morphology and microstructure of the composites, , LFP/CSI-809 and LFP/MNC-859, using XRD, FE-SEM, FT-Raman, and BET surface area analyses. Among these composites, LFP/MNC-859 exhibited better electrochemical performance with higher specific capacity and rate capability as compared to those of LFP/CSI-809.

We present a case of a 79-year-old male with a Salmonella enteritidis prosthetic knee joint infection preceded by an episode of profuse diarrhea. The infection was treated with ceftriaxone antibacterial chemotherapy, and an arthroscopic knee joint washout. The initial treatment failed to eradicate the Salmonella infection.

A novel approach for the spiro-isoindolinone dihydroquinazolinones has been demonstrated from 2-aminobenzamide and 2-cyanomethyl benzoate in the presence of KHMDS as a base to get moderate yields. The reaction has been screened in various bases followed by solvents and a gram scale reaction has also been executed under the given conditions. Based on the controlled experiments a plausible reaction mechanism has been proposed.

Revision of a well-fixed cemented femoral stem is technically challenging. The Exeter Short Revision Stem (SRS) was developed to facilitate cement-in-cement revision mitigating some of these challenges. We present the short to mid-term results of 50 cement-in-cement revisions performed with this implant.

Background: A reliable prediction of outcome for the victims of traumatic brain injury (TBI) on admission is possible from concurrent data analysis from any systematic real-time registry.

Objective: To determine the clinical relevance of the findings from our TBI registry to develop prognostic futuristic models with readily available traditional and novel predictors.

Materials And Methods: Prospectively collected data using predesigned pro forma were analyzed from the first phase of a trauma registry from a South Indian Trauma Centre, compatible with computerized management system at electronic data entry and web data entry interface on demographics, clinical, management, and discharge status.

Looming energy crisis, climate change concerns coupled with decreasing fossil fuel resources has garnered significant global attention toward development of alternative, renewable, carbon-neutral and eco-friendly fuels to fulfil burgeoning energy demands. Waste utilization and its management are being pursued with renewed interest due to the gamut of biobased products it can offer apart from providing enough energy to meet a major fraction of the world's energy demand. Biorefining is the sustainable processing of biomass into a spectrum of marketable products and energy.

Industrially contaminated sites with hazardous materials are a priority and urgent problem all over the world. Appropriate risk assessment is required to determine health risks associated with contaminated sites. The present study was conducted to investigate distribution of potentially hazardous, heavy metal (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) concentrations in surface and groundwater samples collected during summer (pre-monsoon) and winter (post-monsoon) seasons from an industrially contaminated site, Hyderabad, India, with potential source of metal contamination because of industrial effluents and usage of pesticides in agriculture.

Assessment of metal contamination and their distribution in different grain size fractions of the surface sediments of a lake in Kazipalli industrial development area has been investigated. Since the persistent toxic metals pose serious health risks, this research concentrated on investigating the concentrations and spatial distribution of metals in and around the Kazipalli Lake. Ten sampling points were selected and approximately 500 g of surface sediments were obtained from 1ft depth.

Preconcentration of Cd(II), Cu(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) in saline matrices on Amberlite XAD-4 resins coated with ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (APDC) and piperidine dithiocarbamate (pipDTC) and subsequent determination by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry were studied. Parameters such as effect of pH, effect of HNO(3) concentration on elution of metals from resin were studied. The results show that Amberlite XAD-4 coated with APDC was more efficient in the recovery of metal ions compared with Amberlite XAD-4 coated with pipDTC, in the concentration range of 0.
