Using the solid-state reaction technique, varied YSiO phosphors activated by europium (Eu) ions at varied concentrations were made at calcination temperatures of 1000 °C and 1250 °C during sintering in an air environment. The XRD technique identified the monoclinic structure, and the FTIR technique was used to analyze the generated phosphors. Photoluminescence emission and excitation patterns were measured using varying concentrations of Eu ions.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAstrocyte diversity is greatly influenced by local environmental modulation. Here we report that the majority of astrocytes across the mouse brain possess a singular primary cilium localized to the cell soma. Comparative single-cell transcriptomics reveals that primary cilia mediate canonical SHH signaling to modulate astrocyte subtype-specific core features in synaptic regulation, intracellular transport, energy and metabolism.

In this study, we investigated the role of radiomics to predict the pathological response in locally advanced rectal cancers at different treatment time points: (1) before the start of any treatment using baseline T2-weighted MRI (T2W-MR) and (2) at the start of radiation treatment using planning CT.
Methods: Patients on nCRT followed by surgery between June 2017 to December 2019 were included in the study.
Cancer is a leading global cause of mortality, which underscores the imperative of early detection for improved patient outcomes. Biorecognition molecules, especially aptamers, have emerged as highly effective tools for early and accurate cancer cell identification. Aptamers, with superior versatility in synthesis and modification, offer enhanced binding specificity and stability compared with conventional antibodies.

This paper documents outcomes of an implementation research on HPV screening among women from tribal, rural, urban slum settings in India.
Methods: A mixed-method, pragmatic, quasi-experimental trial design was used.
Background: One needs to choose wisely between primary neoadjuvant chemotherapy and primary cytoreductive surgery in ovarian cancer. The aim was to determine the recurrence free survival and overall survival after surgery for epithelial ovarian cancer and also the risk factors for recurrence and death.
Methods: Electronic medical records of 322 women operated for ovarian, fallopian or primary peritoneal cancer between 2011 and 2015table were reviewed.
Objective: To develop and validate a novel scoring system for predicting the risk of uterine perforation during brachytherapy (BT) in cervical cancer patients and to stratify patients based on this score to guide the use of ultrasound guidance during BT.
Methods: Fifty patients with uterine perforation during BT between January 2018 and December 2020 were included. Common reasons for perforation were identified and a scoring system was developed.
After lifting of all COVID-19 preventive measures in England in July 2021, marked, widespread increases in gonorrhea diagnoses, but not testing numbers, were observed, particularly in persons 15-24 years of age. Continued close surveillance and public health messaging to young persons are needed to control and prevent gonorrhea transmission.

In this retrospective study of nonmetastatic LRC (distal margin <5 cm from the anal verge) treated with LCCRT followed by surgery, a radiologist blinded to outcome reread the restaging MRI and documented if the radial margin was involved by tumor, fibrosis, or mucin reaction using T2 high-resolution (HR) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). The diagnostic performance of tumor-involving margin on restaging MRI was assessed using surgical histopathology as a reference.

Researchers have made promising strides in developing resistance against BPH in rice. Introgression line RPBio4918-230S, derived from , has shown consistent resistance to BPH at both the seedling and adult stages of rice plants.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFL-Lactate is increasingly appreciated as a key metabolite and signaling molecule in mammals. However, investigations of the inter- and intra-cellular dynamics of L-lactate are currently hampered by the limited selection and performance of L-lactate-specific genetically encoded biosensors. Here we now report a spectrally and functionally orthogonal pair of high-performance genetically encoded biosensors: a green fluorescent extracellular L-lactate biosensor, designated eLACCO2.

In 1997, a lung cancer cell line was first found to have a MEK mutation (encoding MEK2P298L). MEK is involved in various human cancers such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), spurious melanoma, and pancreatic, colorectal, basal, breast, and liver cancer.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMEK mutations are more common in various human malignancies, such as pancreatic cancer (70-90%), mock melanoma (50%), liver cancer (20-40%), colorectal cancer (25-35%), melanoma (15-20%), non-small cell lung cancer (10-20%) and basal breast cancer (1-5%). Considering the significance of MEK mutations in diverse cancer types, the rational design of the proposed compounds relies on the structural resemblance to FDA-approved MEK inhibitors like selumetinib and binimetinib. The compound under design features distinct substitutions at the benzimidazole moiety, specifically at positions 2 and 3, akin to the FDA-approved drugs, albeit differing in positions 5 and 6.

It can be used as a serum marker to detect residual disease, early local recurrence, or distant metastasis in locally advanced cervical cancer even before the clinical symptoms of recurrence or metastasis.
Methods And Materials: Between January 2018 and August 2018, 30 patients with squamous cell carcinoma cervix (FIGO) stages IB2-IVA, who received concurrent chemoradiation, followed by brachytherapy, were included in the study.
Background: Molecular subtyping of endometrial carcinomas (EC) has been shown to classify tumors into prognostically relevant groups. Characterizing EC with a limited number of markers viz., POLE mutations, p53 mutations, and MMR status, can provide valuable information.

The Israel DNA database has recently started to conduct familial searches (FS). We adopted the CODIS pedigree strategy for FS, which is used in the Unidentified Human Remains (UHR) database and implemented it into the criminal forensic database. This strategy is based on Kinship analysis performed in pedigrees containing DNA profiles from the crime scene designated "unknown," that are then searched against the entire suspects database.
