Objectives: To report a case of adult-onset non-dystrophic myotonia complicated by recurrent episodes of laryngospasm.
Methods: The patient is a 35-year-old man who was admitted to our hospital for recurrent episodes of apnea requiring endotracheal intubation with mechanical ventilation. He underwent extensive evaluation, including EMG, laryngoscopy, muscle biopsy, and genetic testing, which revealed a diagnosis of non-dystrophic myotonia.

Introduction: Gaps exist in the understanding of the etiology of poor sleep quality after lung transplantation. Research Question: What factors are associated with poor sleep quality in lung transplant recipients?
Design: A quantitative, single-site, cross-sectional study used an anonymous survey based on 3 scales. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale with scores dichotomized to poor versus good sleepers based on the cutoff score > 8.
The biosynthesis of cellulose, lignin, and hemicelluloses in plant secondary cell walls (SCWs) is regulated by a hierarchical transcriptional regulatory network. This network features orthologous transcription factors shared between poplar and Arabidopsis, highlighting a foundational similarity in their genetic regulation. However, knowledge on the discrepant behavior of the transcriptional-level molecular regulatory mechanisms between poplar and Arabidopsis remains limited.

As a result, half of US states now face proposed or in-effect abortion bans, which affect the ability of obstetrics and gynecology (ObGyn) residency programs to provide abortion training. We sought to establish ObGyn residents' pre- attitudes toward abortion, desire to learn about abortion, and intentions about providing abortion care in their future practice.

Background: Posterior shoulder instability makes up approximately 10% of all shoulder instability cases and its diagnosis and treatment is less well understood. Recently, however, there has been increased recognition of posterior instability and posterior stabilization. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature to ascertain the outcomes on arthroscopic stabilization of posterior shoulder instability.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLignocellulose is mainly composed of hydrophobic lignin and hydrophilic polysaccharide polymers, contributing to an indispensable carbon resource for green biorefineries. When chemically treated, lignin is compromised owing to detrimental intra- and intermolecular crosslinking that hampers downstream process. The current valorization paradigms aim to avoid the formation of new C-C bonds, referred to as condensation, by blocking or stabilizing the vulnerable moieties of lignin.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOur ability to study and valorize the lignin fraction of biomass is hampered by the fundamental and still unmet challenge of precisely quantifying native lignin's structural features. Here, we developed a rapid elevated-temperature H-C Heteronuclear Single-Quantum Coherence Zero (HSQC) NMR method that enables this precise quantification of native lignin structural characteristics even with whole plant cell wall (WPCW) NMR spectroscopy, overcoming fast spin relaxation in the gel phase. We also formulated a Gaussian fitting algorithm to perform automatic and reliable spectral integration.

It is expected that COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among HCPs has numerous consequences; however, the scope of these consequences and their impacts on providers, patients, and the broader healthcare system remained unclear.
Purpose: To identify existing and emerging evidence to understand the state of knowledge of the consequences of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among HCPs.
Biosynthesis of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids (AA) starts with the condensation of tyramine with 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde. The latter derives from the phenylpropanoid pathway that involves modifications of trans-cinnamic acid, p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid, and possibly 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, all potentially catalyzed by hydroxylase enzymes. Leveraging bioinformatics, molecular biology techniques, and cell biology tools, this research identifies and characterizes key enzymes from the phenylpropanoid pathway in Leucojum aestivum.

The results are achieved despite multiple sources of degradations that lead to high variability in performance. Results shown here, for the first time, include an empirical correction factor for mode-2 asymmetry in the burning plasma regime in addition to previously determined corrections for radiative mix and mode-1.

Introduction: Vaping is a growing public health concern. Interventions that address vaping must build upon rigorous research that uses psychometrically sound instruments to measure vaping-associated outcome expectancies.
Aims And Methods: The primary aim was to appraise the reporting of psychometric properties of instruments used to measure vaping outcome expectancies.
Inertial confinement fusion ignition requires high inflight shell velocity, good energy coupling between the hotspot and shell, and high areal density at peak compression. Three-dimensional asymmetries caused by imperfections in the drive symmetry or target can grow and damage the coupling and confinement. Recent high-yield experiments have shown that low-mode asymmetries are a key degradation mechanism and contribute to variability.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThere are several methods to isolate near-native lignins, including milled-wood lignin, enzymatic lignin, cellulolytic enzyme lignin, and enzymatic mild-acidolysis lignin. Which one is the most representative of the native lignin? Herein, near-native lignins were isolated from different plant groups and structurally analyzed to determine how well these lignins represented their native lignin counterparts. Analytical methods were applied to understand the molecular weight, monomer composition, and distribution of interunit linkages in the structure of the lignins.
