Background: The safety and efficacy of coronary orbital atherectomy (OA) for treatment of ostial lesions are not yet fully established. We sought to evaluate (OA) treatment of severely calcified ostial and non-ostial lesions.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of subjects treated with OA for severely calcified ostial and non-ostial lesions, at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach, Florida (MSMCMB) from January 2014 to September 2020, was completed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the safety and effectiveness of Temporary Pacing via Externalized Active-Fixation (TPEAF) leads in patients requiring temporary pacing post-transvenous lead extraction (TLE).
  • Between April 2004 and December 2017, 158 patients were evaluated, revealing a low complication rate during the procedure (2.5%) but a higher rate (8.2%) of post-implantation issues, primarily lead dislodgments.
  • The findings support that TPEAF leads are generally safe for pacemaker-dependent patients, though monitoring for complications like lead dislodgment and infections is crucial, especially in the early hours post-implantation.
