'We are working in specialty units'-An exploratory qualitative study.

Aim: To explore related support needs of general nurses in specialty mental health units and provide references for formulating a model to support this population working in mental health care units.

Design: An exploratory qualitative design.

Method: In-depth individual unstructured interviews were performed with 15 general nurses who worked in mental health care units and were selected through purposive sampling.

Aim: To explore and describe the daily experiences of non-psychiatric nurses working in selected acute psychiatric wards in South Africa.

Design: A qualitative explorative and descriptive study design was used.

Methods: Individual face-to-face semi-structured interviews were used to gather data from fifteen non-psychiatric nurses with a minimum of one month of experience working in acute psychiatric wards in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the treatment of people infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) using anti-HIV drugs. The standard treatment consists of a combination of drugs (often called highly active antiretroviral therapy or HAART) that suppress HIV replication. As a result, people who have been infected live longer while on ART, which was initiated in South Africa in 2004.

The impact of DNA methylation as a factor of Adverse Pregnancy and Birth Outcomes (APBOs): a systematic review protocol.

Background: Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation is one of the epigenetic modifications that has gained a lot of interest as a factor influencing fetal programming and as a biomarker for adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes (APBOs). Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that DNA methylation can result in adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes (APBOs) including miscarriage, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), low birth weight (LBW), sepsis, and preterm birth (PTB), which may later result in diseases in adulthood. However, the mechanism by which DNA methylation influences these APBOs remains unclear.

Perceived Consequences of COVID-19 Restrictive Visitation Policy on Family Members at Rural Hospitals in Vhembe District: A Qualitative Study.

From a public health standpoint, a stringent visitation policy was necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it had unforeseen communicative and emotional health consequences for family members. This study explored family members' experiences regarding implementing a restricted visitation policy when a patient was admitted with COVID-19 at public hospitals in the Vhembe district. Researchers used an exploratory, descriptive, and contextual qualitative technique.

Factors Related to the Implementation of Preconception Care Recommendations in Selected Districts of Limpopo Province: A Qualitative Study.

Unlabelled: Preconception care (PCC) is the provision of biomedical, behavioural, and social health interventions to women and couples before they fall pregnant. The World Health Organization (WHO) developed PCC recommendations in 2013, which were included in the South African maternity care guidelines in 2016. The purpose of PCC is to lessen behaviours and environmental factors leading to maternal ill-health, thus reducing maternal and perinatal mortality rates.

Experiences of Student Nurses Regarding Experiential Learning in Specialized Psychiatric Hospitals in South Africa, a Qualitative Study.

Background: Experiential learning in specialized psychiatric hospitals is as essential as other learning in any discipline in nursing education as it allows student nurses to correlate theory to practice. Experiential learning in the mental health environment has been identified as a significant factor in promoting a more favorable attitude among student nurses toward mental health nursing.

Title: Caring for Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Challenge to Caregivers in Rural Areas of South Africa.

Background: In South Africa, children with cerebral palsy are nested within a family setting by immediate relatives, particularly in the rural areas. These immediate relatives are regarded as caregivers and are not trained with regard to providing care to children with special needs. Therefore, they have to find ways to adapt to their new roles of caregiving using the available resources.

Psychiatric Clinical Placement: Agony for College Nursing Students in South Africa.

(1) Background: Clinical placements in psychiatric nursing science (PNS) are as important as other placements in any discipline in nursing education as they allow students to correlate theory to practice. Nursing students' absenteeism has become a grave concern in psychiatric institutions in South Africa. This study investigated the clinical factors leading to student nurses' absenteeism in the Limpopo College of Nursing during the psychiatric nursing science clinical placement.

HIV Status Disclosure to Adolescents Who Are Perinatally Infected in Rustenburg Sub District Northwest Province.

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a viral disease caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which affects the immune system of human body. This study sought to explore how adolescents with perinatal HIV infection learn about their status as well as investigate their preferences about the disclosure process. A qualitative exploratory, descriptive, and contextual research design was used to explore the disclosure of an HIV-positive status among adolescents on antiretroviral therapy.

Perceptions of Caregivers Regarding Malnutrition in Children under Five in Rural Areas, South Africa.

Children under five depend on the caregivers to provide them with nutritious food to combat malnutrition. Several studies have been conducted about malnutrition in children, yet limited attention has been paid to the caregivers. Thus, the study investigated the perceptions of caregivers with regard to non-nutritious foods in rural areas in South Africa.

Challenges of Caregivers Regarding Homecare to Type 1 Diabetic Children in Vhembe District, South Africa: A Qualitative Study Report.

Worldwide, type 1 diabetes mellitus disease is a devastating health condition for both the diagnosed children and caregivers taking care of them. These challenges were drastically affecting caregivers in rendering the required homecare service for their patients. Caring for a child with diabetes mellitus often hurts the caregivers and other family members.

Healthcare Workers' Perception of Measures to Reduce the Risk of New Tuberculosis Infections: A Qualitative Study Report.

Tuberculosis, which is an infectious airborne disease remained the main leading cause of death in South Africa for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018. In 2020 alone, the country had an estimated 328,000 people who suffered from TB, with 61,000 dying from it. Collins Chabane Municipality had 129 and 192 new TB cases recorded in 2017 and 2018, respectively, which is far from reaching the END TB STRATEGY targets.
