Background: Altered glycosylation of glycoconjugates is among the important molecular changes that accompany malignant transformation. The purpose of our study was to investigate clinical usefulness of circulatory levels of total and lipid bound sialic acid for early diagnosis and management of oral cavity cancer patients.

Methods: Blood samples were collected from 41 untreated oral cancer patients, 20 patients with oral pre-cancerous conditions (OPC) and 20 healthy subjects.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Raksha M Shah"

  • - Raksha M Shah's research primarily focuses on the clinical implications of oral health conditions, particularly involving unique cases such as oronasal fistulas and the progression of oral pre-cancerous conditions to oral cancer.
  • - In the 2005 study on oronasal fistulas, Shah highlighted the challenges in surgical intervention for patients with complex health histories, employing alternative solutions such as the use of an obturator to address functional concerns.
  • - Another significant 2005 study investigated the relevance of total and lipid-bound sialic acid levels in differentiating between healthy individuals and those with oral pre-cancerous or cancerous conditions, emphasizing the potential for these biomarkers in early diagnosis and management.*
