Corneal disorders and diseases are prevalent in the field of clinical ophthalmology. Fungal keratitis, one of the major factors leading to visual impairment and blindness worldwide, presents significant challenges for traditional topical eye drop treatments. The objective of this study was to create biocompatible 3D-crosslinked hydrogels for drug delivery to the cornea, intending to enhance the bioavailability of ophthalmic drugs.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the neurobiological effects of lithium on hepatocellular carcinoma mice model.
Methods: In this study we analyzed the locomotor activity of lithium-treated tumor-bearing mice using the Phenomaster instrument.
Free-standing tin phosphide/phosphate carbon composite nanofiber mats of unique nanostructure have been successfully synthesized by electrospinning and partially reducing the phosphate-containing precursors. An unusual effect of the Sn:P molar ratio in the precursor solution on the structure and physical-electrochemical properties of the material is observed. Physical characterizations, including X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confirm the formation of tin phosphide/phosphate nanoparticles of P-rich inner Sn P layer and Sn-rich outer layer uniformly distributed within carbon nanofiber matrix when the Sn:P=1:1.

However, traditional methods of drug-loading by soaking have limitations such as burst delivery and the release of drugs at the front side of the lens, leading to poor drug efficacy and systemic side effects. This study introduces a new methodology, termed asymmetric drug loading, whereby the ophthalmic drug 'Rebamipide' is attached to and released from the post-lens (=cornea-contacting) surface exclusively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAnthelmintic praziquantel (PZQ) is the drug of the choice for opisthorchiasis, schistosomiasis and other trematodiases therapy for several decades. Despite its good therapeutic performance and effective control of trematode infections, PZQ has some shortcomings; its inability to counteract disease sequelae necessitates novel therapeutic strategies. Testing of antioxidants that have proven themselves in clinical practice, in combination with this anthelmintic drug, offers new opportunities for developing alternatives to PZQ monotherapy.

Here we show mutations in six different genes (MAGI2, TNS2, DLC1, CDK20, ITSN1, ITSN2) as causing NS in 17 families with partially treatment-sensitive NS (pTSNS). These proteins interact and we delineate their roles in Rho-like small GTPase (RLSG) activity, and demonstrate deficiency for mutants of pTSNS patients.

It is shown that the wound healing process modified by the influence of copper nanoparticles demonstrates the increase in the ESR signal amplitude for :hemoglobin nitrosyl complexes as compared with controls (the ointment base without nanoparticles). Planimetric measurements of wound area through reparation course indicate an active process of wound healing for injuries treated with copper nanoparticles in the ointment, resulting in lessening half-reparation time up to 5.

Comparative study of chitosan wound healing properties and its synthesized derivatives in MC-100 gel was carried out using the model of experimental full thickness skin wounds. It was determined that N-sulfosuccinoyl chitosan derivatives added into the gel in a concentration of 0.05% possess the higher wound healing activity in comparison with other chitosan derivatives and decrease the half-healing period of wounds 2-3 times in comparison with the control.

In most of the countries of Central & Eastern Europe and Central Asia, sex workers report very high levels of abuse from police, particularly in the context of police raids. In this article, based on an oral presentation at the conference, the Sex Workers' Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN) report on the results of a study conducted among sex workers in several countries in the region. The authors make the link between police violence and general violence, and between violence against sex workers and vulnerability to HIV infection.

Vitamin E stabilized the impaired processes. Biologically active complex of propolis produced a similar effect, however, decreased protein synthesis and a tendency to animals' body mass increment have evidenced a more pronounced antioxidative action as compared to that of vitamin E.
