A Rare Case of a Giant Intramuscular Lipoma of the Upper Extremity in a Pediatric Patient.

Although lipomas are the most common benign soft tissue tumors, the non-infiltrating intramuscular subtype is relatively uncommon. As these masses typically present between the ages of 40 and 70, few cases have been reported in the pediatric population. We present a case of a giant intramuscular lipoma of the biceps brachii in an adolescent.

Microsurgical breast reconstruction and primary hypercoagulable disorders.

Background: Primary hypercoagulable disorders pose a significant challenge to microsurgeons and have traditionally been regarded as a relative contraindication to free tissue transfer. Since free flaps offer numerous advantages in breast reconstruction, there is an effort to expand the population to whom these operations can be safely offered. The purpose of this study is to describe our chemoprophylaxis regimen in cases of primary hypercoagulability, as well as to compare flap outcomes and complications between women with and without hypercoagulability.

Dupuytren's Contracture Recurrence and Treatment Following Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum Injection: A Longitudinal Assessment in a Veteran Population.

Introduction: Dupuytren's contracture is a connective tissue disease characterized by an abnormal proliferation of collagen in the palm and fingers, which leads to a decline in hand function because of progressive joint flexion. In addition to surgical and percutaneous interventions, collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH, trade name Xiaflex) is an intralesional enzymatic treatment for adults with palpable cords. The objectives of this study are to evaluate factors predictive of recurrence following treatment with CCH and to review the outcomes of repeat treatments with CCH for recurrent contracture.

Physical Examination and Radiographic Staging of Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthritis.

This article reviews the key components of a complete history and physical examination for a patient presenting with thumb pain. The history should include the location and severity of pain, alleviating and exacerbating factors, and impact of disability. Physical examination consists of joint palpation; assessment for laxity or stiffness; inspection for swelling, subluxation, or deformity; and provocative maneuvers.

Clinical course of venous thromboembolism following abdominally based microsurgical breast reconstruction: A case series.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potentially devastating complication following abdominally based microsurgical breast reconstruction, with a reported incidence of 0.08-4%. The authors aim to describe disease presentation and clinical course following VTE diagnosis in patients within their practice.

Primary Aortoduodenal Fistula: A Case Report and Current Literature Review.

Primary aortoduodenal fistula is a rare, life-threatening pathology that is difficult to diagnose and manage. We present the case of a 64-year-old male with a primary aortoduodenal fistula. Our patient initially underwent an endovascular aneurysm repair at an outside institution before being transferred to our tertiary care center, where he ultimately had definitive management with an extra-anatomic bypass, aortic ligation, duodenal resection with primary anastomosis, and gastrojejunostomy tube placement.
