Olmsted Syndrome in a Family.

Olmsted syndrome (OS) is a rare disorder characterized by the combination of periorificial, keratotic plaques, and bilateral palmoplantar keratoderma. Synonyms are mutilating palmoplantar keratoderma with periorificial keratotic plaques (ORPHA659, MIM #614594 and #300918). A number sign (#) is used with this entry because of evidence that mutilating palmoplantar keratoderma with periorificial keratotic plaques (OS) is caused by heterozygous mutation in the TRPV3 gene on chromosome 17p13.

Systematic review of the use of platelet-rich plasma in aesthetic dermatology.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a highly concentrated autologous solution of plasma prepared from a patient's own blood. PRP contains platelets that are purported to release numerous growth factors that may be valuable in numerous dermatologic applications. Here, we review systematically the clinical cosmetic applications of PRP including: androgenetic alopecia, scar revision, acne scars, skin rejuvenation, dermal augmentation, and striae distensae to understand the potential and best practices for PRP use.

High-resolution ultrasound imaging of cutaneous lesions.

High-resolution variable frequency ultrasound imaging is increasingly being used in the noninvasive evaluation of various cutaneous diseases. It plays a complimentary role to physical examination in the assessment of cutaneous lesions. It is the only imaging modality useful in the evaluation of superficial cutaneous lesions that are too small to be evaluated on computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and is helpful in reducing invasive procedures like biopsies and fine needle aspirations.
