Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a highly successful operation performed worldwide in increasing numbers for a wide range of indications. There has been a corresponding rise in the incidence of periprosthetic joint infection of the hip (PJIH), which is a devastating complication. There is a significant variation in the definition, diagnosis and management of PJIH largely due to a lack of high-level evidence.

However, long stems can be technically challenging to insert and can compromise bone stock for future revision. This study aimed to identify whether there was a difference in outcomes with using a long versus primary or short femoral stem in revision.

Although this is well described and classified in adults, it is uncommon in children. Identifying growth plate trauma and subsequent surgical management are of critical importance.

Collagenase clostridium histolyticum injection (CCH-I) was introduced to the UK in 2011 as an alternative and less invasive treatment for contracture. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of treating Dupuytren's contracture with collagenase compared to surgery.

Templating is also increasingly important from a medico-legal perspective and recommended in the British Orthopaedic Association Guide to Good Practice. Although templating has become increasingly digitised, there are no simple anthropometric models to predict implant sizes in the absence of digital methods.

Purpose: Extraction of the distal femoral cement mantle and restrictor during revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) is challenging and can compromise host bone stock. The aim of this study is to report outcomes of our femoral windowing technique for cement removal.
Methods: We report on a cohort of 36 patients with an average age of 68.
A 64-year-old man was referred to A&E by his general practitioner with worsening back and acute bilateral leg pain and weakness with urinary retention. His MRI scan demonstrated spinal canal stenosis at the level of L1-L2 and a diagnosis of cauda equina syndrome (CES) was made. CES is a rare neurological condition caused by compression of the central spinal nerves at the termination of the cord.

Sources Of Data: An online search was conducted using AMED, CINAHL, Embase, The Cochrane Library, PEDro and Pubmed, using the terms tendinopathy, tendon, tendinitis, tendinosis, histology, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, immunohistochemical, rotator cuff and pain.
