Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of early and proactive involvement of interventional radiology (IR) in the management of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) by performing the cesarean operation and prophylactic uterine artery embolization in the IR angiography suite as a combined procedure.

Materials And Methods: This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of prophylactic uterine artery embolization prior to placental separation in cases of antenatally proven or suspected abnormal placentation. Over a 5-year period, 16 consecutive patients with PAS underwent combined IR and obstetric intervention.

With the current state of COVID-19 changing from a pandemic to being more endemic, the priorities of diagnostics will likely vary from rapid detection to stratification for the treatment of the most vulnerable patients. Such patient stratification can be facilitated using multiple markers, including SARS-CoV-2-specific viral enzymes, like the 3CL protease, and viral-life-cycle-associated host proteins, such as ACE2. To enable future explorations, we have developed a fluorescent and Raman spectroscopic SARS-CoV-2 3CL protease assay that can be run sequentially with a fluorescent ACE2 activity measurement within the same sample.

The incidental detection of pancreatic cysts, an opportunity for the early detection of pancreatic cancer, is increasing, owing to an aging population and improvements in imaging technology. The classification of pancreatic cystic precursors currently relies on imaging and cyst fluid evaluations, including cytology and protein and genomic analyses. However, there are persistent limitations that obstruct the accuracy and quality of information for clinicians, including the limited volume of the complex, often acellular, and proteinaceous milieu that comprises pancreatic cyst fluid.

Background: Atherosclerotic carotid plaques are one of the most important causes of stroke. Apart from the severity of stenosis, there are certain plaque characteristics such as neovascularization and, surface ulceration which makes a plaque vulnerable. This study was performed to study the plaque characteristics using contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and evaluate their association with presence of ischemic cerebrovascular symptoms in these patients.

The classification of pancreatic cyst fluids can provide a basis for the early detection of pancreatic cancer while eliminating unnecessary procedures. A candidate biomarker, gastricsin (pepsin C), was found to be present in potentially malignant mucinous pancreatic cyst fluids. A gastricsin activity assay using a magnetic bead-based platform has been developed using immobilized peptide substrates selective for gastricsin bearing a dimeric rhodamine dye.

Multi-metallic hybrid nancatalysts consisting of a porous metal oxide host and metal satellite guests serve as a scaffold for multi-step transformations of divergent and energy-challenging substrates. Here we have developed a 3D porous MgO framework (Lewis basic host) with Ag nanoparticles (noble metal guest) for ambient pressure activation and insertion of CO into unsaturated alkyne substrates. The hybrid MgO@Ag-x (x = 2, 5, 7, 8 at % Ag) catalysts are synthesized by impregnating Ag ions in porous MgO cubes followed by reduction using NaBH.

Partial or complete failure of obliteration of the processus vaginalis in the female results in the formation of a potential space known as the canal of Nuck, into which various organs and/or collections can herniate. A 4-month-old female presented with a left labial mass related to herniation of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes through the canal of Nuck. Early diagnosis is important as there is a high risk of ovarian torsion and incarceration.

Fibrin plays a critical role in wound healing and hemostasis, yet it is also the main case of cardiovascular diseases and thrombosis. Here, we show the unique design of Au-Cu@PANI alloy core-shell rods for fibrin clot degradation. Microscopic (transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray (STEM-EDX)) and structural characterizations (powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)) of the Au-Cu@PANI hybrid material reveal the formation of Au-Cu heterogeneous alloy core rods (aspect ratio = 3.

Background: Aicardi-Goutières syndrome (AGS) is a genetic inflammatory disorder that presents with early infantile encephalopathy. We report the clinical and molecular details of multiple members of a family with AGS secondary to a novel RNASEH2C mutation, highlighting the evolution of phenotypic abnormalities in AGS.

Methods: Between February 2018 and June 2019, a pedigree tree was constructed for 141 members of a family.

Background: Proximal LAD and LCx occlusion usually associated with poorer clinical outcome in ACS. Hence, a rapid and efficient tool is needed to identify those conditions and initiate reperfusion at the earliest. We studied ECG features in relation to angiographic findings to identify the culprit artery in AWMI and IWMI.

Trichomoniasis is the most prevalent, curable sexually transmitted disease (STD), which increases risk of viral STDs and HIV. However, drug resistance has been developed by some strains of Trichomonas vaginalis against Metronidazole (MTZ), the FDA approved drug against trichomoniasis. In the present study twenty two chalcone hybrids of metronidazole have been synthesized in a quest to get new molecules with higher potential against metronidazole-resistant T.

Introduction of structured competency-based training for specialty registrars and implementation of European Working Time Directives (EWTD) have affected the quality of maternity care. In York District Hospital, consultant resident on-call (CRO) without registrar cover was introduced in July 2010 to address the long-standing problem of middle-grade out-of-hours coverage. To examine the impact of introducing out-of-hours consultant resident on-call on maternity care, data from 486 deliveries including 59 CRO and 59 registrar shifts were collected retrospectively, from July 2010 to April 2011.

A class of hybrid molecules consisting of 4-aminoquinoline and pyrimidine were synthesized and tested for antimalarial activity against both chloroquine (CQ)-sensitive (D6) and chloroquine (CQ)-resistant (W2) strains of Plasmodium falciparum through an in vitro assay. Eleven hybrids showed better antimalarial activity against both CQ-sensitive and CQ-resistant strains of P. falciparum in comparison to standard drug CQ.

We report a case of a patient with congenital aortic stenosis previously repaired using the Ross procedure, who presented to our unit for urgent caesarean delivery. Management was complicated by moderate residual cardiac disease and the presence of a suprapubic femoro-femoral crossover graft. Following application of five-lead electrocardiogram and invasive blood pressure monitoring, anaesthesia was induced via combined spinal-epidural with epidural volume extension.
