Amphotericin B (AmB) is a polyene antifungal agent used widely for systemic fungal infections. Infusion-related side effects, nephrotoxicity, and dyselectrolytemia are well-known adverse effects with the use of this drug. Liposomal preparation of AmB has less adverse events.

- HIV/AIDS is a chronic disease affecting multiple systems, with around 70% of patients developing neurologic issues like distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN), which can also be a side effect of HIV treatment drugs.
- A study conducted in New Delhi with 90 young HIV-infected participants (treatment-naïve) and 30 healthy controls found that 13.4% of the HIV patients had DSPN, often without symptoms.
- The presence of DSPN was significantly linked to the HIV infection itself, the duration of infection, and the level of immune deficiency, highlighting that DSPN can occur early in the disease even with mild immunosuppression.
