Fly ash, produced during coal combustion for energy making, which is recognized as an industrial by-product, could lead to environmental health hazards. Subsequently, fly ash found that an exceptional adsorption performance for the removal of various toxic pollutants, the adsorption capacity of fly ash might be altered by introducing physical/chemical stimulation. Successfully converting fly ash into zeolites not only recovers their disposal difficulties but also transforms unwanted materials into merchandisable products for various industrial applications.

Background: The present study aims to evaluate a three-dimensional (3D) changes in the crestal bone levels (buccally, lingually/palatally, mesially, and distally) and in the thickness of keratinized tissue around single or multiple implants using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) after 1 year.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-eight implants were placed in the posterior load-bearing areas in 10 patients. The crestal bone levels and the thickness of keratinized tissue surrounding the edentulous area were assessed preoperatively, immediately after implant placement, and 1 year after implant placement using CBCT (3D imaging technique with DICOM software (Carestream Health, Rochester, NY)).

The rapid growth of nanotechnology has opened new frontiers in biomedical applications, particularly through the use of metal nanoparticles. This study explores the green synthesis of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) using an aqueous extract of Pleurotus ostreatus (PO-CuNPs) and their characterization through UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, and EDAX. The synthesized PO-CuNPs demonstrated exceptional antioxidant activity, evident in hydrogen peroxide scavenging and phosphomolybdenum assays.

Using high-resolution 3D printing, a novel class of microneedle array patches (MAPs) is introduced, called latticed MAPs (L-MAPs). Unlike most MAPs which are composed of either solid structures or hollow needles, L-MAPs incorporate tapered struts that form hollow cells capable of trapping liquid droplets. The lattice structures can also be coated with traditional viscous coating formulations, enabling both liquid- and solid-state cargo delivery, on a single patch.

Sustainable materials for remediation of pollutants from water is the need of the hour. In this study two carbonaceous adsorbents prepared through hydrothermal carbonisation and pyrolysis from arecanut husk fiber, an agricultural waste material were used for the adsorption of uranium from water. Batch adsorption data as interpreted using the Langmuir model showed adsorption capacities of 250 mg g and 200 mg g respectively at pH 6 for the hydrochar (AHFC) and the pyrochar (AHFT) exceeding that reported for most of the unmodified biochars.

Unlabelled: Distal enhancers play critical roles in sustaining oncogenic gene-expression programs. We identify aberrant enhancer-like activation of GGAA tandem repeats as a characteristic feature of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) with genetic defects of the ETV6 transcriptional repressor, including ETV6-RUNX1+ and ETV6-null B-ALL. We show that GGAA repeat enhancers are direct activators of previously identified ETV6-RUNX1+/- like B-ALL "signature" genes, including the likely leukemogenic driver EPOR.

Neutrophil elastase, a powerful physiological defence tool, may serve as drug target for diverse diseases due to its bystander effect on host cells like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Here, we synthesised seven novel benzoxazinone derivatives and identified that these synthetic compounds are human neutrophil elastase inhibitor that was demonstrated by enzyme substrate kinetic assay. In the present study, we characterized the probiotic properties of two commercially available bacterial strains, Lactobacillus paragasseri UBLG-36 and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei UBLPC-87, and evaluated their ability to degrade oxalate in vitro and in a hyperoxaluria-induced nephrolithiasis rat model. UBLG-36 harboring two oxalate catabolizing genes, oxalyl coenzyme A decarboxylase (oxc) and formyl coenzyme A transferase (frc), was previously shown to degrade oxalate in vitro effectively. Here, we show that UBLPC-87, lacking both oxc and frc, could still degrade oxalate in vitro.
