Article Synopsis
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) can be challenging to diagnose due to their varied presentation and the difficulty of visualizing the distal aorta with bedside ultrasound.
  • A study evaluated 500 aortic scans performed in the Emergency Department to determine if patient weight, gender, or age affected the visualization of the distal aorta.
  • The findings indicated that weight had a significant impact on visualizing the proximal aorta, while neither age nor gender showed a clinically significant effect on the visualization of the distal aorta.

We aimed to determine the impact bedside ultrasound (US) could have in suspected PTA on ED length of stay (LOS) and hospital admission rates.
