Few metrics exist to describe phenotypic diversity within ophthalmic imaging datasets, with researchers often using ethnicity as a surrogate marker for biological variability. We derived a continuous, measured metric, the retinal pigment score (RPS), that quantifies the degree of pigmentation from a colour fundus photograph of the eye. RPS was validated using two large epidemiological studies with demographic and genetic data (UK Biobank and EPIC-Norfolk Study) and reproduced in a Tanzanian, an Australian, and a Chinese dataset.

Spatially selective imaging (SSI) involves sampling a group of pixels from different positions on an encoded object to display a decoded image. Here, SSI is achieved by using off-axis cylindrical Fresnel lens arrays to decode multiple images from an encoded print of structural color pixels. Each image is optically retrieved by separately placing different "keys" (arrays of lenses in different pseudorandom configurations) over the same encoded print, and then each image is digitally reconstructed for visualization.

In this study, we present three different approaches for the colorimetric detection of Ni ions using a specifically designed benzothiazole-quinoline dyad (L) synthesized the Knoevenagel condensation reaction in high yield. The unique properties of L enable a rapid and selective response to Ni ions, making it an ideal probe for practical applications. The probe L shows a pale yellow color under normal conditions.

Introduction: Masseteric VEMPs have been effective in evaluating a diverse spectrum of vestibular conditions associated with various brainstem pathologies, but they have rarely been explored among patients with vestibular neuritis.

Case Report: The current investigation included a case series highlighting mVEMP responses in addition to cVEMPs and oVEMPs in three patients diagnosed with vestibular neuritis. In the study, all three patients were found to have absent or diminished responses in cVEMPs, oVEMPs, and mVEMPs.

Structural connectivity (SC) between distant regions of the brain support synchronized function known as functional connectivity (FC) and give rise to the large-scale brain networks that enable cognition and behavior. Understanding how SC enables FC is important to understand how injuries to SC may alter brain function and cognition. Previous work evaluating whole-brain SC-FC relationships showed that SC explained FC well in unimodal visual and motor areas, but only weakly in association areas, suggesting a unimodal-heteromodal gradient organization of SC-FC coupling.
