Article Synopsis
  • Buerger's disease (BD) is a serious condition that requires early diagnosis for effective treatment, but there’s no universally accepted method for diagnosing it due to varied criteria used by different vascular centers.
  • A recent Delphi Consensus Study highlighted the lack of consensus on BD diagnostic criteria, particularly beyond the requirement of a history of smoking, making it hard to compare patient outcomes globally.
  • The VAS-European Independent Foundation has proposed that a definitive BD diagnosis should include a history of smoking, typical angiographic and histopathological features, and suggests using a combination of major and minor criteria for suspected diagnoses, with validation studies currently in progress.

Although stent thrombosis is a recognized complication of coronary intervention, recurrent stent thrombosis is rarely reported. We present a patient who suffered 3 ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctions associated with repeated stent thromboses within a month and a half. Although a potentially mechanical cause of thrombosis was identified in the only baremetal stent implanted in this case, no predisposing factors were seen for the 2 drug-eluting stents (DES).

Anomalous origin of coronary arteries is discovered incidentally during coronary arteriography or at autopsy, and awareness among angiographers is required. We describe a case with a rare combination of a single coronary artery originating from the right sinus of Valsalva associated with an absent left anterior descending artery and a secundum-type atrial septal defect.

Intraoperative echocardiography (IOE) has earned a major role in surgical decision-making and helps the cardiac surgeon decide and proceed with appropriate intervention based on the visualized pathology. With the advent of minimally invasive surgical techniques and robotic-assisted operations, more emphasis and dependence has been placed on IOE. We describe our experience with IOE during mitral valve repair at our center, which is one of the pioneer centers for these telemanipulation techniques.
