The current effort focuses on creating an effective adsorbent for Cr (VI) adsorption due to the growing need to address Cr (VI) pollution in aqueous solutions. Chitosan, a biopolymer and polysaccharide with several functional sites, is immobilized on alginate using the ion exchange technique. Both prior to and following Cr (VI) adsorption, the material's shape, crystallinity, and functional groups are reported.

This study evaluated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in residents with persistent lower respiratory symptoms (PLRS) or asthma six years after exposure to sulphur dioxide vapours emanating from an ignited sulphur stockpile. A cross-sectional study was carried out, using interview data collected at three time points (prior to, one- and six-years post incident), medical history, respiratory symptoms and HRQOL using the Medical Outcomes Study Form 36 (SF-36). : A total of 246 records, 74 with and 172 without PLRS or asthma, were analysed.

Soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) degrades epoxides of fatty acids including epoxyeicosatrienoic acid isomers (EETs), which are produced as metabolites of the cytochrome P450 branch of the arachidonic acid pathway. EETs exert a variety of largely beneficial effects in the context of inflammation and vascular regulation. sEH inhibition is shown to be therapeutic in several cardiovascular and renal disorders, as well as in peripheral analgesia, via the increased availability of anti-inflammatory EETs.

Challenges of modifying root traits in crops for agriculture.

A rapid method for isolation of piperine from the fruits of Piper nigrum Linn.

A simple, rapid and efficient method has been developed for the isolation of piperine from the fruits of Piper nigrum. The method involves extraction of the fruit powder with glacial acetic acid, from which piperine is partitioned into chloroform and subsequently crystallized. The identity of the compound was confirmed by its melting point, comparison of UV, IR, and mass spectral data with those from a reference standard, and co-chromatography with the reference standard using thin-layer chromatography (TLC).
