Physio-biochemical responses and crop performance analysis in chickpea upon botanical priming.

Chickpea is a highly nutritious protein-rich source and one of the major crops to alleviate global malnutrition, but poor seed quality affects its productivity. Seed quality is essential for better crop establishment and higher yields, particularly in the uncertain climate change. The present study investigated the impact of botanical priming versus hydropriming and bavistin seed treatment on chickpea seeds.

The curious case of genome packaging and assembly in RNA viruses infecting plants.

Genome packaging is the crucial step for maturation of plant viruses containing an RNA genome. Viruses exhibit a remarkable degree of packaging specificity, despite the probability of co-packaging cellular RNAs. Three different types of viral genome packaging systems are reported so far.

Knockdown of capsid protein encoding novel ATPase domain inhibits genome packaging in potato leafroll virus.

Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) uses powerful molecular machines to package its genome into a viral capsid employing ATP as fuel. Although, recent bioinformatics and structural studies have revealed detailed mechanism of DNA packaging, little is known about the mechanochemistry of genome packaging in small plant viruses such as PLRV. We have identified a novel P-loop-containing ATPase domain with two Walker A-like motifs, two arginine fingers, and two sensor motifs distributed throughout the polypeptide chain of PLRV capsid protein (CP).

Inhibition of potato leafroll virus multiplication and systemic translocation by siRNA constructs against putative ATPase fold of movement protein.

Viruses cause many severe plant diseases, resulting in immense losses of crop yield worldwide. Therefore, developing novel approaches to control plant viruses is crucial to meet the demands of a growing world population. Recently, RNA interference (RNAi) has been widely used to develop virus-resistant plants.

First report on molecular basis of potato leaf roll virus (PLRV) aggravation by combined effect of tuber and prevailing aphid.

Objective: The Potato Leaf Roll Virus (PLRV) is one of the most devastating virus causing severe yield losses worldwide in potato. The comprehensive observations were made to study the PLRV infestation in major potato growing areas of Bihar (India) and further detailed molecular basis of PLRV aggravation was established.

Results: Although aphids population were found comparatively lower with maximum symptomatic plants, our molecular data further confirms the presence of PLRV in all possible symptomatic tissues such as tubers, shoots and leaves.

Effect of Long-term Immersion in Water and Artificial Saliva on the Flexural Strength of Two Heat Cure Denture Base Resins.

Aim: The aim of the present study was to compare and evaluate the flexural strength of heat-polymerized Lucitone 199 and SR Ivocap denture base resin materials which uses polymerization techniques of compression molding and injection molding respectively and effect of artificial saliva and distilled water on long-term.

Materials And Methods: Ninety specimens each from both the materials measuring 65 × 10 × 3 mm were prepared. After the polymerization, flexural strength was calculated after 24 hours (control group) without immersing in the liquid medium.

Prostate specific antigen in patients of benign prostate hypertrophy and carcinoma prostate.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) has emerged as the most applicable and important tumor marker for carcinoma prostate. In the present study PSA was determined in serum of healthy subjects, patients of benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) and Carcinoma Prostate (Ca-P) to evaluate its diagnostic efficiency in day to day management of prostate cancer patients and in differentiating patients of early prostate cancer from those with BPH. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) revealed 2 ng/ml and 10 ng/ml cut off serum PSA level for BPH and untreated carcinoma prostate patients (Ca-P).

Stability of total and free prostate specific antigen in serum samples at different storage conditions.

The present preliminary study was performed to find out stability of total prostate specific antigen (PSA) and free prostate specific antigen (FPSA) in serum of healthy males as well as in patients of benign and malignant disorders of prostate at various freezing and nonfreezing temperatures and at different duration of time.The results of our study indicated long-term stability of both the analytes in frozen serum. Serum total and free PSA were stable only for three to four days in regular refrigerators in unfrozen states.

Racial and ethnic variation of PSA in global population: Age specific reference intervals for serum prostate specific antigen in healthy South Indian males.

The serum PSA is universally accepted as the useful and clinically relevant tumor marker for monitoring therapy and identifying early recurrence in patients of carcinoma prostate throughout the world. However, application of serum PSA is limited to screening for early adenocarcinoma prostate among males above fifty years of age.Serum PSA concentration varies from one population to another in different parts of the world.
