Introduction/objectives: Haemostatic spray (HS; Hemospray) is a powder agent for endoscopic haemostasis in patients with acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). It has been shown to be effective and easy to administer. However, published data on efficacy and safety in children remain scarce.

Clinical profile, referral trends, and real-world application of vibration-controlled transient elastography in children with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Singapore.

Background And Aim: Pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a progressive disorder that is increasing in incidence globally. The study aims to describe the clinical profile and longitudinal outcome, including the utility of vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), in children with NAFLD at a single tertiary liver unit in Singapore.

Methods: Retrospective review of patients aged 0-18 years referred for NAFLD from 2003 to 2020 was conducted.

Clinical Profile and Factors Associated with Adverse Outcomes in Coronavirus Disease 2019-associated Mucormycosis: A Single-centre Study.

: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was associated with an increased incidence of mucormycosis globally. However, the clinical pattern, epidemiologic features and risk factors for adverse outcomes are not well established. : We performed a retrospective analysis of the data from patients hospitalized with proven mucormycosis between April 2021 and August 2021.

Canonical strigolactones are not the major determinant of tillering but important rhizospheric signals in rice.

Strigolactones (SLs) are a plant hormone inhibiting shoot branching/tillering and a rhizospheric, chemical signal that triggers seed germination of the noxious root parasitic plant and mediates symbiosis with beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Identifying specific roles of canonical and noncanonical SLs, the two SL subfamilies, is important for developing -resistant cereals and for engineering plant architecture. Here, we report that rice mutants lacking canonical SLs do not show the shoot phenotypes known for SL-deficient plants, exhibiting only a delay in establishing arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, but release exudates with a significantly decreased seed-germinating activity.

N-of-1 Trials vs. Usual Care in Children With Hypertension: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Blood pressure (BP) is often inadequately controlled in children treated for hypertension, and personalized (n-of-1) trials show promise for tailoring treatment choices. We assessed whether patients whose treatment choices are informed by an n-of-1 trial have improved BP control compared to usual care.

Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted in a pediatric hypertension clinic in Houston from April 2018 to September 2020.

Carotenoid cleavage, catalyzed by CAROTENOID CLEAVAGE DIOXYGENASEs (CCDs), provides signaling molecules and precursors of plant hormones. Recently, we showed that zaxinone, a apocarotenoid metabolite formed by the CCD ZAXINONE SYNTHASE (ZAS), is a growth regulator required for normal rice (Oryza sativa) growth and development. The rice genome encodes three OsZAS homologs, called here OsZAS1b, OsZAS1c, and OsZAS2, with unknown functions.

A Novel HM-HD-RFET Biosensor for Label-Free Biomolecule Detection.

The mortality of people worldwide caused by COVID-19 has enhanced the research interest to design and develop power-efficient, low-cost, and sensitive biosensors to detect a wide range of biomolecules or foreign particles that can cause severe negative impact on humans. A novel Bio-RFET biosensor with hetero-material (HM) for source/channel and drain regions and hetero-dielectric (HD) is proposed, which acts as an -MOSFET or a -MOSFET and -TFET or -TFET. This HM-HD-RFET biosensor senses the biomolecules by the label-free dielectric modulation (DM) technique.

A comparison of clinical outcomes between vaccinated and vaccine-naive patients of COVID-19, in four tertiary care hospitals of Kerala, South India.

The Problem Considered: This multi-centric study analyzed data of COVID-19 patients and compared differences in symptomatology, management, and outcomes between vaccinated and vaccine-naive patients.

Methods: All COVID-19 positive individuals treated as an in-or out-patient from the 1March to 15 May 2021 in four selected study sites were considered for the study. Treatment details, symptoms, and clinical course were obtained from hospital records.

A Gadolinium DO3A Amide -Phenyl Boronic Acid MRI Probe for Targeted Imaging of Sialated Solid Tumors.

We developed a new probe, Gd-DO3A-Am-PBA, for imaging tumors. Our results showed active targeting of Gd-DO3A-Am-PBA to sialic acid (SA) moieties, with increased cellular labeling in vitro and enhanced tumor accumulation and retention in vivo, compared to the commercial Gadovist. The effectiveness of our newly synthesized probe lies in its adequate retention phase, which is expected to provide a suitable time window for tumor diagnosis and a faster renal clearance, which will reduce toxicity risks when translated to clinics.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma in the Absence of Cirrhosis in a Child With Inactive Chronic Hepatitis B Infection.

Chronic hepatitis B infection has been identified as an important risk factor for developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) especially in the presence of hepatitis and liver cirrhosis. However, here we describe an unusual case of a child with chronic hepatitis B infection who developed HCC in the absence of active hepatitis or cirrhosis. This case serves to highlight the importance of regular HCC surveillance for all children with chronic hepatitis B, regardless of presence or absence of hepatitis or cirrhosis.

Constraints on Cosmic Strings Using Data from the Third Advanced LIGO-Virgo Observing Run.

We search for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the Advanced LIGO and Virgo full O3 dataset. Search results are presented for gravitational waves produced by cosmic string loop features such as cusps, kinks, and, for the first time, kink-kink collisions. A template-based search for short-duration transient signals does not yield a detection.

MiRNA expression profiling and emergence of new prognostic signature for oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the most common type of head and neck cancers, is associated with high recurrence, metastasis, low long-term survival rates and poor treatment outcome. As deregulated miRNA expression plays a crucial role in malignant transformation and cancer progression, the present study is aimed at profiling the miRNA expression pattern in OSCC and developing a new miRNA prognostic signature for oral cancer. MiRNA expression profiling was performed using MiRNA microarray in 30 tumor and 18 normal samples.

Virtual screening of phytochemical compounds as potential inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Background: The present pandemic situation due to coronavirus has led to the search for newer prevention, diagnostic, and treatment methods. The onset of the corona infection in a human results in acute respiratory illness followed by death if not diagnosed and treated with suitable antiretroviral drugs. With the unavailability of the targeted drug treatment, several repurposed drugs are being used for treatment.

Prospects for observing and localizing gravitational-wave transients with Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA.

We present our current best estimate of the plausible observing scenarios for the Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo and KAGRA gravitational-wave detectors over the next several years, with the intention of providing information to facilitate planning for multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves. We estimate the sensitivity of the network to transient gravitational-wave signals for the third (O3), fourth (O4) and fifth observing (O5) runs, including the planned upgrades of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. We study the capability of the network to determine the sky location of the source for gravitational-wave signals from the inspiral of binary systems of compact objects, that is binary neutron star, neutron star-black hole, and binary black hole systems.

Bacterial blight (BB) and fungal blast diseases are the major biotic constraints that limit rice productivity. To sustain yield improvement in rice, it is necessary to developed yield potential of the rice varieties by incorporation of biotic stress resistance genes. Tellahamsa is a well-adapted popular high yielding rice variety in Telangana state, India.

"Tram-line" Calcifications in Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

Nephrocalcinosis consists of deposition of calcium in the renal parenchyma. Renal cortical calcification is a rare entity in comparison to calcium deposits in the medulla and is seen only in a handful of pathologies with corresponding characteristic patterns on imaging. Thin linear calcifications may get deposited in the peripheral renal cortex suggestive of cortical necrosis due to a vascular insult (vasculitis), and rarely due to glomerulonephritis.

Tests of General Relativity with GW170817.

The recent discovery by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo of a gravitational wave signal from a binary neutron star inspiral has enabled tests of general relativity (GR) with this new type of source. This source, for the first time, permits tests of strong-field dynamics of compact binaries in the presence of matter. In this Letter, we place constraints on the dipole radiation and possible deviations from GR in the post-Newtonian coefficients that govern the inspiral regime.

Constraining the p-Mode-g-Mode Tidal Instability with GW170817.

We analyze the impact of a proposed tidal instability coupling p modes and g modes within neutron stars on GW170817. This nonresonant instability transfers energy from the orbit of the binary to internal modes of the stars, accelerating the gravitational-wave driven inspiral. We model the impact of this instability on the phasing of the gravitational wave signal using three parameters per star: an overall amplitude, a saturation frequency, and a spectral index.
