Invasive Sinusitis Presenting with Orbital Complications in COVID Patients: Is Mucor the Only Cause?

The second wave of COVID pandemic was associated with an outbreak of Mucormycosis. The mortality rate of Mucormycosis reaches 50-80% in cases with orbital and intracranial extension (Fadda in Acta Otorhinolaryngol Ital 41:43-50, 2021). In this outbreak we found that few of these patients had bacterial invasive sinusitis mimicking fungal sinusitis.

The Outcome of Treatment for Thyroglossal Tract Anomalies.

Background Thyroglossal tract anomalies are the most common cause of midline neck swelling. Thyroglossal cysts present between the base of the tongue and cricoid cartilage as painless, midline swelling that moves on deglutition and protrusion of the tongue. If the thyroglossal cyst gets infected or is violated surgically, it can result in a thyroglossal sinus or fistula.

Background: Ketamine is central to one of the most rapidly growing areas of neuroscientific research into novel treatments for depression. Limited research has indicated that the psychedelic properties of ketamine may play a role in its antidepressant effects.
