Background: A randomized controlled trial was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the Modular Approach to Therapy for Youths with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Conduct Problems (MATCH) for Norwegian youths referred to seven Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatient Clinics. MATCH addresses comorbid problems that are common in children and youth, and its transdiagnostic design may therefore be more effective compared to standard treatments that often address single problems. MATCH has, however, never been evaluated in a Nordic context, and the present study aimed to fill this gap.

Background: This study aims to predict risk factors for urological anomalies in children with anorectal malformations (ARM) and describes the clinical features of patients who have developed chronic kidney disease.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed infants with ARM who received surgery and were followed at the Sabah Women and Children's Hospital, Malaysia, from 1986 to 2010.

Results: One hundred and twenty-two children with anorectal malformations were studied, after excluding 24 children with incomplete data.

The shedding pattern of the protozoan parasite, Blastocystis hominis, is investigated in man and in experimental animal infections. The shedding pattern of the vacuolar and cystic forms of Blastocystis hominis in infected individuals have been shown in the present study to be irregular. The study shows that there is marked fluctuation in the shedding of the parasite from day to day, varying from as high as 17 to 0 per x40 microscopic field.

Rectal duplications are rare anomalies. Recently, we observed four cases of rectal duplication, each presenting with different clinical features including chronic constipation, a prolapsing rectal "polyp, " a "growth" from the vulva, and acute retention of urine. The variety of clinical presentations may lead to delay in diagnosis and multiple operations.

The distinction between immotile necrosperm (dead spermatozoa) and those with immotility due to other causes is of the utmost clinical importance. The supravital dyes currently used for the identification of necrosperm are not highly reliable or accurate. In this study, GDA-J/F3 monoclonal antibody (MoAb) which reacts with the fibrous sheath (FS) was used as a specific probe for the detection of necrosperm using indirect immunofluorescence (IIF).

The proportion and quality of motility of spermatozoa in normozoospermic ejaculates were assessed using computer-assisted semen analysis. The ejaculate was split and the motility re-assessed following separation on a Percoll gradient with or without cryomedium and cryopreservation. Cryopreservation caused a significant decrease in the proportion of motile spermatozoa and in their velocity and amplitude of lateral head displacement.

Saphenous vein coronary artery bypass graft patency can be increased by antiplatelet therapy. Aspirin plus dipyridamole are effective but are associated with tolerability problems. Indobufen is a possible alternative antiplatelet agent that may be better tolerated.

Thirty-six infertile couples underwent treatment by in-vitro fertilization. In 16 couples (group 1) the male partner was positive for antisperm antibodies measured by direct mixed antiglobulin reaction, direct immunobead test, and serum and/or seminal plasma tray agglutination test. In 20 couples (group 2) the men had no such antibodies.

Objective: To compare two methods of detection of surface bound antibodies on spermatozoa from subfertile males.

Design: Prospective comparison of direct mixed antiglobulin reaction (MAR) for immunoglobulin (Ig)G with direct immunobead test (IgG and IgA) applied to spermatozoa from male partners of infertile couples. Circulating unbound antibody measured by tray agglutination test in serum and seminal plasma in a representative proportion.

The activated clotting time is an unreliable index of anticoagulation status during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. However, modern instrumentation (Hemotec Hepcon HMS) now allows the monitoring of free heparin levels via automated protamine titration. In the present study, the standard procedure of anticoagulation at Killingbeck Hospital, Leeds, was investigated.

Thrombelastography (TEG) has proved useful in identifying coagulopathies (via assessment of clot elasticity properties) during hepatic surgery, but its role in cardiac surgery has as yet not been defined. Twenty-two children [11M, 11F, mean age (range) 4.9 (0.

A patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-associated Kaposi's sarcoma presenting with a vulval neoplasm is reported. Although more common in black than white people, Kaposi's sarcoma infrequently presents with gynaecological symptoms or lesions. In this case report the management of Kaposi's sarcoma presenting as a vulval neoplasm in a young woman with a positive antibody test to HIV is discussed and the need to screen young women with vulval neoplasms for this infection is highlighted.

The 81 youngsters who began attending a day treatment programme within a 1-year period were assessed using an interval design. The children ranged in age from 18 months to 16 years and attended with similarly aged children for 1 day a week. The treatment programme combined family therapy with the day unit's milieu therapy and specific individual treatment programmes for the child.

As abnormal eicosanoid (prostaglandin) metabolism has been suggested as a factor in the aetiology of vasospastic diseases we have measured levels of stable eicosanoid metabolites using a radioimmunoassay in 30 normal subjects and 31 patients with Raynaud's phenomenon. There were 13 patients with primary Raynaud's, ten with Raynaud's secondary to scleroderma and eight men with vibration white finger (VWF) disease. We have also measured platelet aggregation to adenosine diphosphate (ADP), collagen and adrenaline in 19 normal subjects, 22 patients with primary Raynaud's, 12 with Raynaud's secondary to scleroderma and 14 men with VWF.

The effects of single- and four-stage preclotting methods on graft porosity and thrombogenicity were compared in two types of Dacron prosthesis. The single-stage method significantly reduced leakage of blood (P less than 0.001), but did not seal the grafts.

We have evaluated the effect of indobufen on the potential thrombogenicity of a Dacron vascular prosthesis in an artificial circulation. In a randomised double blind crossover study, ten healthy volunteers received indobufen 200 mg or placebo twice daily for one week. The artificial circulation, incorporating a 15 cm length of 8 mm Dacron graft was perfused for 60 mins with volunteer blood containing autologous 111In labelled platelets.

A total of 125 patients undergoing aorta-coronary bypass grafting for disabling angina were randomized to receive either 330 mg of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) plus 75 mg of dipyridamole three times daily or a placebo for 6 months postoperatively. In addition, all patients were given warfarin for 3 months. Repeat angiography was performed at 6 months in 103 patients.

The role of Indobufen in preventing the formation of microthrombi on hemodialysis membranes has been investigated in 18 patients in a placebo controlled randomized double-blind cross-over study. All patients had been on regular maintenance hemodialysis for at least 3 months. Indobufen was given as 100 mg b.
