Purpose: The study aimed at scoring Indian preterm infants at three months corrected age on the TIMP and then comparing the scores to the United States age-based population scores.
Methods: After obtaining Ethical clearance, participants meeting the inclusion criteria of 53 infants whose parents consented were screened and recruited (N = 47) at a tertiary care hospital. The TIMP was then administered at three months of corrected age.
Introduction: In serological testing, determination of ABO grouping requires both antigen typing for A and B antigens and screening of serum or plasma for A and B antibodies. Lack of corroboration between the results of the cell and serum groupings identifies a discrepancy. Analysis of ABO blood group discrepancies was performed to determine the incidence of these discrepancies among healthy blood donors and oncology patients.

Aim: To serially monitor the ionized calcium levels of the plateletpheresis donors and to correlate with symptoms of hypocalcemia if any.
Methods: It was a prospective observational study in 126 healthy voluntary donors eligible for plateletpheresis as per the Departmental SOP and after taking written informed consent.
Purpose: A cross-sectional epidemiological survey of children was conducted in two rural clusters to estimate the point prevalence and study various aspects of childhood epilepsy.
Material And Methods: In the first stage, a house-to-house survey was conducted by health workers using a screening questionnaire, which was pre-validated in a pilot study. All screen positive houses were visited by pediatric neurologist for detailed evaluation.
Purpose: To compare Melatonin with Triclofos for efficacy (proportion of successful EEG, need of augmentation, sleep onset latency (SOL), yield of discharges, duration of sleep, presence and grade of artifacts) and tolerability (adverse effect profile).
Methods: A randomized trial was performed (block randomization). All children were advised regarding sleep deprivation, EEG technician administered the drug.
Objective: To compare clinical and nerve conduction studies (NCS) parameters predictive of outcome in children with acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP) and acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN).
Methods: In this prospective observational study, NCS was done on all children at admission and repeated before discharge. Functional status of patients was graded as per Hughes Disability score.
Essential thrombocythemia (ET) (primary thrombocythemia) is a nonreactive, chronic myeloproliferative clonal disorder in which sustained megakaryocyte proliferation leads to an increase in the number of circulating platelets. It is silent disorder and is diagnosed as high platelet counts with or without associated symptoms or as an accidental finding. We, hereby, report a case of ET as an incidental finding during screening of a potential platelet donor.

Methods: In this prospective study, 51 children aged less than 18 years received intravenous loading dose of fosphenytoin (18-20 mg/kg). Serum total phenytoin levels were estimated at 90 -100 minutes.
Background: Molecular bases of blood group systems, including Rh blood group, have been poorly studied in the Indian population so far, while specificities of Europeans, East Asians and Africans have been well known for years. In order to gain insights into the molecular bases of this population, we sought to characterize the allele in D- Indian donors expressing C and/or E antigen(s).
Methods: gene was analyzed in 171 serologically D-, C/E+ samples by standard molecular methods such as quantitative, multiplex PCR of short fluorescent fragments (QMPSF) and direct sequencing when necessary.

Method: The study group included patients registered in the HIV Cancer clinic at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), Mumbai, which is the largest tertiary referral cancer center in India. We used the gender and age-specific proportions of each cancer site of the year 2002 that was recorded in the Hospital Cancer Registry to estimate an expected number of various cancer sites among HIV positive cancer patients during the period 2001-2005.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of long-term ziprasidone therapy in treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
Method: This prospective, 1-year, open-label study of ziprasidone (40-160 mg/day) was conducted in subjects who had participated in a previous randomized 12-week comparison of ziprasi-done and chlorpromazine in treatment-resistant schizophrenia (DSM-III-R criteria). The clinical response of 62 subjects was evaluated (32 subjects had been on ziprasidone treatment and 30 had been on chlorpromazine treatment prior to enrollment in the continuation study).
Introduction: Apart from the visual assessment, measurement of plasma hemoglobin in the supernatant from red cell units provides an objective measure of the extent of hemolysis during storage.
Study Design And Methods: Packed red cells (N=50), 25 units each in triple (CPD-A1 and SAGM) and quadruple (CPD-A1 and ADSOL) blood bags were evaluated for plasma hemoglobin by the tetramethylbenzidiene (TMB) method on day 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 of collection. The hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, LDH and potassium levels were also noted.
