The association between non- and pro-healthy diet indices and the risk of colorectal cancer: a case-control study.

Background: The Non-Healthy Diet Index (NHDI) and the Pro-Healthy Diet Index (PHDI) are two novel indices that evaluate the healthiness of a diet based on the consumption of several food groups. This study aimed to evaluate the association between adherence to the PHDI and NHDI and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk in the Iranian population.

Methods: The current study was conducted as a hospital-based research using a case (n = 71)- matched-controls (n = 142) design in Tehran, Iran.

Statistical physics of principal minors: Cavity approach.

Determinants are useful to represent the state of an interacting system of (effectively) repulsive and independent elements, like fermions in a quantum system and training samples in a learning problem. A computationally challenging problem is to compute the sum of powers of principal minors of a matrix which is relevant to the study of critical behaviors in quantum fermionic systems and finding a subset of maximally informative training data for a learning algorithm. Specifically, principal minors of positive square matrices can be considered as statistical weights of a random point process on the set of the matrix indices.

Preferences of Iranian medical students for selecting the compulsory service plan packages: A discrete choice experiment.

Background And Aims: Health policymakers face challenges in designing compulsory plan packages for medical students to encourage them to work in disadvantaged regions. Using a discrete choice experiment, this study assessed the preferences of medical students for selecting the compulsory service plan packages in Guilan Province, Iran.

Methods: In total, 374 medical students responded to a survey inquiring about salary, distance from their residency city, availability of welfare amenities, work difficulty, the developmental status of their workplace, contract duration, and preference for urban or rural work settings.

Identifying Quantum Many-Body Integrability and Chaos Using Eigenstate Trace Distances.

While the concepts of quantum many-body integrability and chaos are of fundamental importance for the understanding of quantum matter, their precise definition has so far remained an open question. In this Letter, we introduce an alternative indicator for quantum many-body integrability and chaos, which is based on the statistics of eigenstates by means of nearest-neighbor subsystem trace distances. We show that this provides us with a faithful classification through extensive numerical simulations for a large variety of paradigmatic model systems including random matrix theories, free fermions, Bethe-ansatz solvable systems, and models of many-body localization.

The Effect of Mentoring Novice Clinical Educators on the Perception of Nursing Students from the Clinical Learning Environment.

Introduction: Creating a supportive clinical learning environment (CLE) is one of the characteristics of an effective clinical instructor in nursing. Perhaps empowering novice clinical educators using mentorship method can reduce or resolve this problem. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the mentorship program for novice clinical educators on the nursing students' actual and preferred understanding of CLE.

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Patients with Amblyopia.

To determine the optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) parameters including foveal avascular zone (FAZ) and vessel density (VD) in the amblyopic eyes compared with the fellow sound eyes and the eyes of the non-amblyopic subjects. In this case-control study, a total of 23 eyes from unilateral amblyopic children were included as cases. The sound eye of the amblyopic children was considered as the internal control and the right eyes of the non-amblyopic children were considered as the external control.

Retinal Vascular Abnormalities in Different Types of Inherited Retinal Dystrophies Assessed by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Purpose: To investigate the retinal vascular characteristics among patients with different types of inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs).

Methods: This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted on 59 genetically confirmed cases of IRD including 37 patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) (74 eyes), 13 patients with Stargardt disease (STGD) (26 eyes), and 9 patients with cone-rod dystrophy (CRD) (18 eyes). Both eyes of 50 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals were investigated as controls.
