Improving Procedural Pain Management for Newborns in a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: A Quality Improvement Initiative.

Introduction:  Neonatal pain has been associated with numerous adverse outcomes, making pain management essential in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Our specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and timely (SMART) aim was to increase the proportion of neonates receiving pain management interventions during painful procedures from a baseline of less than 30% to above 50% within six months.

Methods: The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model for improvement methodology was employed to improve pain management in the NICU between August 2022 and July 2023.

Identification of Nontuberculous Mycobacterium Species by Polymerase Chain Reaction - Restriction Enzyme Analysis (PCR-REA) of rpoB gene in Clinical Isolates.

Background: Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections are an emerging global health concern with increasing incidence. Conventional identification methods for NTM species in clinical settings are prone to errors. This study evaluates a newer method, polymerase chain reaction-restriction enzyme analysis (PCR-REA) of the rpoB gene, for NTM species identification.

Visual, rapid, and cost-effective BK virus detection system for renal transplanted patients using gold nanoparticle coupled loop-mediated isothermal amplification (nanoLAMP).

A substantial percentage of kidney transplant recipients show transplant failure due to BK virus-induced nephropathy. This can be clinically controlled by the rapid and timely detection of BK virus infection in immune-compromised patients. We report a rapid (two hours from sample collection, processing, and detection), cost-effective (< 2$), highly sensitive and BKV-specific nanoLAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplification) diagnostic methodology using novel primers and gold nanoparticles complex-based visual detection.

Hernia among Patients Admitted to the Department of Surgery of a Tertiary Care Centre.

Introduction: Hernia is one of the most common surgical conditions causing disability and requiring hospital admission and surgery. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of hernia among patients admitted to the Department of Surgery of a tertiary care centre.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among patients admitted to the Department of Surgery between 14 April 2021 and 13 April 2023 and were collected from 1 July 2023 to 31 July 2023 from the hospital records.

Epidemiology of Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury in the Himalayan Range and Sub-Himalayan region: A Retrospective Hospital Data-Based Study.

Objective: To compile epidemiological characteristics of traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) in the Northern Indian Himalayan regions and Sub-Himalayan planes.

Methods: The present study is a retrospective, cross-sectional descriptive analysis based on hospital data conducted at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Spine Unit of Trauma Centre in a tertiary care hospital in Uttarakhand, India. People hospitalized at the tertiary care center between August 2018 and November 2021 are included in the study sample.

Tailored mesoporous γ-WO nanoplates: unraveling their potential for highly sensitive NH detection and efficient photocatalysis.

Herein, the monoclinic phase of tungsten oxide (γ-WO) was successfully obtained after annealing hydrothermally synthesised WO powder at 500 °C. As per the result obtained from the N adsorption-desorption isotherm, the material has been identified as mesoporous with a specific surface area of 3.71 m g from BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) analysis.

Aim: This study aimed to compare the maximum peak pressures among diabetic patients with and without neuropathy.

Efficacy of Bhramari pranayama and Om chanting on asthma control, quality of life, and airway inflammation in asthmatic children: an open-label randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: To explore the efficacy of combination of and chanting as an adjunct to standard pharmacological treatment on asthma control, quality of life, pulmonary function, and airway inflammation in asthmatic children.

Methods: Children ( = 110; 8-15 years) with uncontrolled or partly controlled asthma were recruited from the Pediatric Chest Clinic of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Eligible participants were randomized to either home-based online and chanting plus standard treatment (YI + ST) group, or standard treatment (ST) alone group.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the commonest cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) across the world. Development of microalbuminuria is the earliest marker of DKD and predicts progressive decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). However, recent evidence has suggested that a significant proportion of type 2 diabetic patients have chronic kidney disease (CKD) without proteinuria.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been defined by the American College of Rheumatology in 1987 as a chronic inflammatory disease characterised by joint swelling, joint tenderness, and destruction of synovial joints leading to severe disability and premature mortality. There is a paucity of literature assessing corticomotor excitability in RA patients. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome in Spinal Cord Injury.

Spinal cord injury (SCI), in addition to motor and sensory problems, may also lead to autonomic dysfunction. Background And Purpose: The choice between posterior approach (PA) and direct lateral approach (DLA) for total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains a contentious issue regarding clinical outcome optimization and restoring patient function. Previous studies have evaluated the postsurgical outcomes mostly in the form of Harris hip score (HHS), and the data to objectively measure the postoperative muscle power is scarce. We intend to objectively compare the hip abduction and extension strengths and other functional outcomes with a very simple tool in PA and DLA in the Indian population as most patients do not undergo as intensive rehabilitation in the postoperative period as in the western world.

The 6 A's model of social worker associations and COVID-19: A preliminary insight.

This paper offers the 6 A's model of social worker associations and COVID-19, which includes (i) 'Apprehend', (ii) 'act', (iii) 'advocate', (iv) 'alliance', (v) 'an emphasis on solidarity and resilience' and (vi) 'a future prospect'. The model is based on the findings of qualitative analysis of social worker associations' reports on COVID-19. It also offers insights that can be utilised in similar crises in the future.

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a musculoskeletal ailment that affects millions globally. Differential effect of basal vitamin D status in monocrotaline induced pulmonary arterial hypertension in normal and vitamin D deficient rats: Possible involvement of eNOS/TGF-β/α-SMA signaling pathways.

Vitamin D deficiency is common and linked to poor prognosis in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). We investigated the differential effect of basal vitamin D levels in monocrotaline (MCT) induced PAH in normal and vitamin D deficient (VDD) rats. Rats were fed a VDD diet and exposed to filtered fluorescent light to deplete vitamin D.

Psychoneuroimmunology of Meditation.

Background: Meditation is a conscious mental discipline, that has been implicated in the relaxation response. The mechanism behind such a relaxing effect is psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), based on the interaction between mind, physical health, and self-healing; that conceptualizes that stress and an individual's emotional state led to predisposition to diseases. Research to date suggests that meditation may play an active role in remodeling the imbalance between mind and body by modulating the psychoneuroimmunological effects of stress.

Factors affecting quality of daytime and nighttime sleep among dialysis patients: A single center experience.

Background: Hemodialysis is the most common treatment modality for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Excessive daytime sleepiness and poor nighttime sleep is a common problem among these patients.
