Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) can be compositionally controlled at the single-atom level, but understanding structure-property correlations is required for tailoring specific optical properties. Here, the impact of Ni atom doping on the optical, structural, and electrochemical properties of atomically precise 1,3-benzene dithiol (BDT) protected Ag NCs is studied. The Ni-doped Ag (NiAg(BDT)) NCs, are synthesized using a co-reduction method and characterized using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI MS), ion mobility spectrometry (IMS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

The 2-week, virtual Future of the Search for Life science and engineering workshop brought together more than 100 scientists, engineers, and technologists in March and April 2022 to provide their expert opinion on the interconnections between life-detection science and technology. Participants identified the advances in measurement and sampling technologies they believed to be necessary to perform searches for life elsewhere in our Solar System, 20 years or more in the future. Among suggested measurements for these searches, those pertaining to three potential indicators of life termed "dynamic disequilibrium," "catalysis," and "informational polymers" were identified as particularly promising avenues for further exploration.

A hierarchical cobalt carbonate hydroxide (CCH) nanostructure with outstanding electrochemical kinetics and structural stability for energy storage is largely unknown. Herein, we report tin oxide-functionalized CCH surface-enabled unique two-dimensional (2D) interlayered heterostructures that promote high conductivity with more electroactive sites to maximize redox reactions.
