[Verapamil retard as a medication for the prevention of affective and schizoaffective psychosis relapses].

Twelve patients with affective and schisoaffective psychosis according to ICD-10 criteria were examined. In the earlier study, the patients displayed a resistance to verapamil of short duration action. After 4-year treatment, verapamil has been substituted for its retard dosage form--isoptin retard.

[Cerebrolysin and magnesium-B6 in the treatment of side effects of psychotropic drugs].

51 patients were observed. Schizophrenia was diagnosed in 31 patients and endogenous depression in 20 cases. All the patients had extrapyramidal and somato-vegetative side effects of neuroleptics and antidepressive drugs, and were resistant to conventional corrective therapy for at least a period of 3 weeks.

Efficiency of verapamil was studied in secondary prophylaxis of phasic affective disorders, 50 patients with affective and schizoaffective psychoses were treated during 2 years. Daily dose of verapamil was 80-320 mg (average dose-240 mg). Three groups were formed.

[The role of hereditary, clinical and pharmacokinetic factors in predicting the prophylactic effect of lithium salts].

In the framework of a multicentre WHO research program results of prophylactic treatment with lithium carbonate of 77 patients with affective phasic disorders were compared with a series of clinical parameters, specificity of lithium pharmacokinetics and the background characteristics of families in the groups of responders (68.8%) and non-responders. Correlations of efficacy with pharmacokinetic parameters were absent.

[Clinical characteristics of unipolar depressive psychosis].

Clinico-catamnestic investigation was performed in 100 patients with endogenous affective psychosis with phasic depression. Two variants of the unipolar depression were identified characteristically differing in major clinical and pathogenic parameters. This fact allowed regarding unipolar depression as a distinct pathogenic entity.
