Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare malignancy, often challenging to diagnose due to its nonspecific presentation and resemblance to other neoplasms. This case highlights a locally advanced nasopharyngeal FDCS initially misdiagnosed as a meningioma, underscoring the importance of differential diagnosis in unusual tumor presentations. A 77-year-old patient presented with nasal obstruction for 3 months.

Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the difficulties in diagnosing pleural tuberculosis (TB) and introduces a new method called magnetic-bead-gold nanoparticle-PCR amplified immunoassay (MB-AuNP-I-PCR) to improve detection.
  • The method was tested on 99 clinical specimens and demonstrated a sensitivity of 85.2% and a specificity of 97.8%, which was significantly better than other existing diagnostic techniques.
  • The researchers emphasize that while the results are promising, further testing with a larger sample size is needed to validate the effectiveness of the MB-AuNP-I-PCR method for diagnosing pleural TB.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the impact of text message prompts on increased physical activity (PA) among women with breast cancer by using a randomized trial with three different groups: Placebo, Imagery first, and Imagery second.
  • Participants received either a motivational text message encouraging motor imagery for aerobic exercise or a neutral message, along with daily evening check-ins on their activity.
  • Results showed that those in the Imagery groups reported more weekly aerobic exercise and higher self-efficacy compared to the Placebo group, indicating that text messaging can effectively boost exercise engagement in this population.

Background: Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) in the United Kingdom (UK) deliver enhanced care to high-acuity, critically ill and injured patients. To enable patients to meet the HEMS team who treated them, many services within the UK have developed or are in the process of developing a Patient and Family Aftercare Service (PFAS). This study aims to evaluate whether the introduction of PFAS mitigates anxiety associated with patient aftercare visits.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses a rare chronic infection called Madura foot or mycetoma, characterized by granulomatous tissue damage that affects subcutaneous tissues and bones.
  • Early diagnosis is important and can be aided by MRI imaging, especially when the distinct "dot-in-circle" sign is present, with CT scans providing better detail than regular X-rays.
  • Identifying the specific infectious agent (either a fungus or the bacterium Actinomyces) is crucial for effective treatment, which can be complex and may lead to amputation if not diagnosed promptly.

Background: Evidence-based International clinical practice guidelines, universally recommend secondary prevention medications for those with previous cardiovascular disease (CVD). There is limited data on the community use of these medications in the Middle East (ME).

Objectives: This study assesses the use and predictors of evidence based secondary prevention medications in individuals with a history of CVD [coronary heart disease (CHD) or stroke].

Most of the pulmonary endobronchial lesions are malignant in origin. In rare instances, benign lesions such as endobronchial hamartoma may be the cause of the endobronchial tree obstruction. We present the case of a 57-year-old male patient from North Africa who presents with a history of a 5-month cough.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of total aflatoxin (AF) and ochratoxin A (OTA) in poultry feed ingredients under different environmental conditions during the summer and winter seasons, while the hygiene quality of the feed ingredient was assessed through viable fungal count (VFC).

Materials And Methods: A total of 288 poultry feed ingredients ( 96 each) samples were collected from different poultry shops, which were initially analyzed for the presence of AF and OTA through thin layer chromatography (TLC) and then confirmed the contamination concentration through the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method.

Results: The results of the current study confirmed the incidence of contamination with AF and OTA by TLC and ELISA methods.

Application of machine learning in plant breeding is a recent concept, that has to be optimized for precise utilization in the breeding program of high yielding crop plants. Identification and efficient utilization of heterotic grouping pattern aided with machine learning approaches is of utmost importance in hybrid cultivar breeding as it can save time and resources required to breed a new plant hybrid/variety. In the present study, 109 genotypes of sunflower were investigated at morphological, biochemical (SDS-PAGE) and molecular levels (through micro-satellites (SSR) markers) for heterotic grouping.

The pseudoaneurysms of the cystic artery (CAP) are very uncommon. They usually develop as a result of an acute cholecystitis or after a cholecystectomy. Among the complications, we can find hemorrhaging, biliary blockage, and haemobilia.

Protein aggregation is related to numerous pathological conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. In our study, we have shown that an already existing FDA-approved drug; methotrexate (MTX) can be reprofiled on preformed α-chymotrypsinogen A (α-Cgn A) aggregates. The zymogen showed formation of aggregates upon interaction with mercuric ions, with increasing concentration of HgCl (0-150 µM).

Rapid urban expansion and a booming population are placing immense pressure on our agricultural systems, leading to detrimental impacts on soil fertility and overall health. Due to the extensive use of agrochemicals in agriculture, the necessity to meet the expanding demand for food has also resulted in unsustainable farming practices. Around the world, biochar, a multipurpose carbonaceous material, is being used to concurrently solve issues with enhancing soil fertility, plant growth, and development under both normal and stressful circumstances.

Hackathons are collaborative events that bring together diverse groups to solve predefined challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has emphasized the need for portable and reproducible genomics analysis pipelines to study the genetic susceptibility of the human host and investigate human-SARS-CoV-2 protein interactions. To build and strengthen institutional capacities in OMICS data analysis applied to host-pathogen interaction (HPI), the PHINDaccess project organized two hackathons in 2020 and 2021.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a network of structural proteins, glycoproteins and proteoglycans that assists independent cells in aggregating and forming highly organized functional structures. ECM serves numerous purposes and is an essential component of tissue structure and functions. Initially, the role of ECM was considered to be confined to passive functions like providing mechanical strength and structural identity to tissues, serving as barriers and platforms for cells.
