Objective: To describe a large series of patients, in which a novel founder mutation in the Roma population of southern Spain has been identified.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with centronuclear myopathy (CNM) at 5 major reference centers for neuromuscular disease in Spain (n = 53) were screened for mutations. Clinical, histologic, radiologic, and genetic features were analyzed.

Taxanes are being used for the treatment of breast cancer. However, cancer cells frequently develop resistance to these drugs with the subsequent recurrence of the tumor. MDA-MB-231 and T-47D breast cancer cell lines were used to assess the effect of paclitaxel treatment on apoptosis and cell cycle, the possible mechanisms of paclitaxel resistance as well as the enhancement of paclitaxel-induced apoptosis based on its combination with phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC).

Immunomodulatory drugs have demonstrated efficacy in the therapy against autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) represents a target molecule for the treatment of these entities. Use of monoclonal antibodies can block the proinflammatory function of TNF-α.
