In situ observations of large-amplitude Alfvén waves heating and accelerating the solar wind.

After leaving the Sun's corona, the solar wind continues to accelerate and cools, but more slowly than expected for a freely expanding adiabatic gas. Alfvén waves are perturbations of the interplanetary magnetic field that transport energy. We use in situ measurements from the Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter spacecraft to investigate a stream of solar wind as it traverses the inner heliosphere.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has recently introduced the Rural Track Program (RTP) initiative to combat physician shortage in rural areas. Inner southern magnetosphere observation of Mercury via SERENA ion sensors in BepiColombo mission.

Mercury's southern inner magnetosphere is an unexplored region as it was not observed by earlier space missions. In October 2021, BepiColombo mission has passed through this region during its first Mercury flyby. Here, we describe the observations of SERENA ion sensors nearby and inside Mercury's magnetosphere.

Myocardial Injury and Altered Gene Expression Associated With SARS-CoV-2 Infection or mRNA Vaccination.

SARS CoV-2 enters host cells via its Spike protein moiety binding to the essential cardiac enzyme angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) 2, followed by internalization. COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are RNA sequences that are translated into Spike protein, which follows the same ACE2-binding route as the intact virion. In model systems, isolated Spike protein can produce cell damage and altered gene expression, and myocardial injury or myocarditis can occur during COVID-19 or after mRNA vaccination.

MESSENGER Observations of Planetary Ion Enhancements at Mercury's Northern Magnetospheric Cusp During Flux Transfer Event Showers.

At Mercury, several processes can release ions and neutrals out of the planet's surface. Here we present enhancements of planetary ions (Na-group ions) in Mercury's northern magnetospheric cusp during flux transfer event (FTE) "showers." FTE showers are intervals of intense dayside magnetopause reconnection, during which FTEs are observed in quick succession, that is, only separated by a few seconds.

Safety and efficacy of IV theophylline for regadenoson-associated side effect reversal.

Background: Aminophylline injection has been on an intermittent nation-wide shortage due to manufacturing delays leaving a need for an alternative reversal agent for regadenoson-associated side effects. Intravenous theophylline should be a logical acceptable pharmacological alternative; however, data regarding its safety and efficacy as a reversal agent are lacking.

Methods: Utilizing electronic medical records at the University of Colorado hospital, we identified patients ≥ 18 years of age who had a pharmacologic stress test using regadenoson during periods of aminophylline shortage (3/1/2013 to 5/31/2013 and 4/1/2018 to 8/30/2018) in which theophylline was used as an alternative antidote for side effect reversal.

Stability and Change in Sexual Orientation and Genital Arousal over Time.

Longitudinal work suggests that sexual orientation can change over time in men and women. These studies, however, may be susceptible to the bias of self-report. The current study therefore examined self-reported sexual orientation in addition to an objective correlate: genital arousal to erotic videos showing males or females.

Abacavir antiretroviral therapy and indices of subclinical vascular disease in persons with HIV.

Objective: Indices of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, vascular endothelial dilation, arterial stiffness and endothelial repair were examined in persons with HIV (PWH) on an antiretroviral therapy (ART) that included abacavir (ABC+) in comparison with PWH on ART without abacavir (ABC-), and with HIV seronegative (HIV-) individuals.

Approach: The 115 participants (63% men), aged 30-50 years, did not have CVD, metabolic, endocrine, or chronic renal conditions. PWH were on stable ART for six-months or more.

Observational evidence of ring current in the magnetosphere of Mercury.

The magnetic gradient and curvature drift of energetic ions can form a longitudinal electric current around a planet known as the ring current, that has been observed in the intrinsic magnetospheres of Earth, Jupiter, and Saturn. However, there is still a lack of observational evidence of ring current in Mercury's magnetosphere, which has a significantly weaker dipole magnetic field. Under such conditions, charged particles are thought to be efficiently lost through magnetopause shadowing and/or directly impact the planetary surface.

The missing piece in block design tasks: Resolving performance differences elicited by designs with identical stimulus parameters.

Block design stimulus variables (perceptual cohesiveness, response uncertainty, partial components) have been previously shown to impact test performance. However, relevant studies suggest designs that "look" different should elicit similar performance, where these stimulus parameters are identical. The current study sought to explore other, previously unidentified parameters.

Why is it so difficult to study magnetic compass orientation in murine rodents?

A magnetic compass sense has been demonstrated in all major classes of vertebrates, as well as in many invertebrates. In mammals, controlled laboratory studies of mice have provided evidence for a robust magnetic compass that is comparable to, or exceeds, the performance of that in other animals. Nevertheless, the vast majority of laboratory studies of spatial behavior and cognition in murine rodents have failed to produce evidence of sensitivity to magnetic cues.

Volatiles and Refractories in Surface-Bounded Exospheres in the Inner Solar System.

Volatiles and refractories represent the two end-members in the volatility range of species in any surface-bounded exosphere. Volatiles include elements that do not interact strongly with the surface, such as neon (detected on the Moon) and helium (detected both on the Moon and at Mercury), but also argon, a noble gas (detected on the Moon) that surprisingly adsorbs at the cold lunar nighttime surface. Refractories include species such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum, all of which have very strong bonds with the lunar surface and thus need energetic processes to be ejected into the exosphere.

Effects of Repeated Administration and Comparability of Alternate Forms for the Global Neuropsychological Assessment (GNA).

The Global Neuropsychological Assessment (GNA) is an extremely brief battery of cognitive tasks assessing episodic memory, processing speed, working memory, verbal fluency, executive function, and mood. It can be given in under 15 minutes, has five alternate forms, and does not require an examinee to be literate. The purpose of this study was to quantify practice effects over repeated administrations and assess comparability of the GNA's five alternate forms, preparing the battery for repeated administration in research and clinical settings.

Preliminary Validation of the Global Neuropsychological Assessment in Alzheimer's Disease and Healthy Volunteers.
