Background: The aim of this study was to understand the experiences of young men with a diagnosis of testicular cancer (TC) using a narrative approach, with the intention of informing models of care and support in clinical services.
Methods: TC patients were recruited to participate in one of four focus groups examining their lived experiences from diagnosis. Focus groups were recorded and transcribed and analyzed using a narrative approach.

Perioperative shivering is a well-known complication reported in 29 to 54% of patients undergoing a caesarean section under regional anaesthesia. It interferes with pulse oximetry, blood pressure (BP), and electrocardiographic monitoring (ECG). Moreover, it gives the patient a distressing and unpleasant experience.

We evaluated the presenting cancer stages of TGCTs in a real-world population before and during the pandemic to assess stage migration.
Methods: We performed a retrospective review of all new patients with TGCT diagnoses in Alberta, Canada, from Dec.
Objective: The aim of this study is to find the incidence, risks, and reasons for prolonged length of hospital stay, short, long-term mortality, and the factors contributing to mortality of postoperative delirium in proximal femoral fractures.
Methods: The data for the study was obtained from National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) and internal hospital computer systems (Medway, ICE, Clinic letters) between January 2018 and December 2019. One hundred seventy-five patients were found have developed postoperative delirium.
Background: With advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, women with early-stage breast cancer (ESBC) are living longer, increasing the number of patients receiving post-treatment follow-up care. Best-practice survivorship models recommend transitioning ESBC patients from oncology-provider (OP) care to community-based care. While developing materials for a future randomized controlled trial (RCT) to test the feasibility of a nurse-led Telephone Survivorship Clinic (TSC) for a smooth transition of ESBC survivors to follow-up care, we explored patients' and OPs' reactions to several of our proposed methods.

We sought to develop two care plan evaluation (cpe) measures, one for survivors (cpe-s) and one for healthcare providers (cpe-p), examine initial psychometric qualities in Alberta, and assess generalizability in Manitoba, Canada.
Methods: We developed the initial measures using convenience samples of breast ( = 35) and head and neck ( 18) survivors who received scps at the end of active cancer-centre treatment.

Tourniquets are routinely and safely used in limb surgeries throughout the world. Tourniquet application alters normal physiology. Healthy patients tolerate these physiological changes well, but the physiological changes may not be well-tolerated by patients with poor cardiac function.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is the second leading cause of death worldwide due to a single infectious agent. Rates of active TB in places of prescribed detention (PPD), which include Prisons, Young Offender Institutions and Immigration Removal Centres, are high compared with the general population. PPD therefore present an opportunity to develop targeted health programmes for TB control.

After transfer of care, it is unknown how BC survivors fare with treatment and surveillance goals, and whether they have unmet needs for access to specialist care. This study conducted in a sample of women in Alberta, Canada, examined adherence with follow-up guidelines, symptoms, and need for a telephone-based survivorship clinic.

Methods: The audit tool was developed based on best practice guidelines and piloted in one prison.
Background: Survivorship care plans (scps) have been recommended as a way to ease the transition from active cancer treatment to follow-up care, to reduce uncertainty for survivors in the management of their ongoing health, and to improve continuity of care. The objective of the demonstration project reported here was to assess the value of scps for cancer survivors in western Canada.
Methods: The Alberta CancerBridges team developed, implemented, and evaluated scps for 36 breast and 21 head-and-neck cancer survivors.
Purpose: The outcome of patients with preoperative renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockade, achieved either by angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blocking agents, was assessed using 30-day mortality as a primary end point.
Methods: An observational cohort study of 883 consecutive patients undergoing elective open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (AAA) was undertaken and analyzed using a propensity score matched study. The data collected included medical history, anesthetic techniques, and postoperative outcomes.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women. The present study evaluated the family physicians' (FPs) understanding of adjuvant hormonal therapies for an early breast cancer. FPs were invited to attend teaching workshops on this topic, which utilized a pretest, didactic and interactive teaching, and posttest format.

A 3-month-old male infant received an overdose as evidenced by toxic lidocaine levels and developed generalized seizures shortly after. Back extrapolation of the serum lidocaine concentration to time zero was used to determine the administered dose.

This rare adverse drug reaction developed in a 38-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic right ovarian cystectomy and endometrial ablation as a day procedure involving application of the topical antiseptic 10% povidone-iodine solution. Two days later, the patient was admitted to the hospital with burning, pain, itching, marked redness, and blistering extending from her midback to buttocks.

The Pk trisaccharide and the central disaccharide element of asialo GM1 activated as their trichloroacetimidates were each used to glycosylate 16-(p-toluensulfonyloxy) hexadecanol 1. Displacement of the tosyl group by thiocyanate followed by sodium borohydride reduction and saponification afforded oligosaccharide 16-mercaptohexadecanyl glycosides that were isolated as the corresponding disulfides 6 and 17 unless oxygen was rigorously excluded from the solvents used for work-up. Dithiothreitol reduction of disulfides and subsequent isolation under an inert atmosphere with degassed solvents gave the thiols 7 and 18.

Fourteen donors were given recombinant G-CSF to mobilize progenitor cells. Circulating CD34+ cells were monitored daily and leukapheresis was performed at 3-5 days when the level exceeded 20 x 10(6)/L. Monitoring of CD34+ cells collected at intervals during apheresis gave results within 20 min.

Calculated field penetration based on the current-element method agrees well with measurement at frequencies above about 100 MHz, but at lower frequencies measured field penetration becomes progressively less than calculated as conductivity is reduced.
