Gel-based membranes, a fusion of polymer networks and liquid components, have emerged as versatile tools in a variety of technological domains thanks to their unique structural and functional attributes. Historically rooted in basic filtration tasks, recent advancements in synthetic strategies have increased the mechanical strength, selectivity, and longevity of these membranes. This review summarizes their evolution, emphasizing breakthroughs that have positioned them at the forefront of cutting-edge applications.

Development of a SPE-LC-MS Method for the Quantitation of Palbociclib and Abemaciclib in Human Plasma.

Palbociclib and abemaciclib are two cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 used for breast cancer treatment. Levels of these medicines present a significant interindividual variability, so monitoring those concentrations might be necessary in therapy. Most of the methods presented so far in the literature use simple protein precipitation of plasma proteins as sample preparation method followed by direct injection of the supernatant into the LC instrument, preceded or not by a simple filtration step.

West Nile virus (WNV) is a zoonotic flavivirus whose transmission cycle in nature includes wild birds as amplifying hosts and ornithophilic mosquito vectors. Bridge vectors can transmit WNV to mammal species potentially causing West Nile Fever. Wild bird migration is a mode of WNV introduction into new areas.

Histochemical and immunohistochemical study of mucinous rectal carcinoma.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major health problem worldwide. The objective of our study was to assess the histopathological (HP) and immunohistochemical (IHC) profile of mucins from signet ring (SR) and mucinous rectal carcinoma, while evaluating their value as a prognostic factor and muco-secretive ability. The HP study (76 cases) included 4 categories of patients: pure mucinous (PM), mixed mucinous components (MM) (50-80% of the tumor cells), mixed mucinous components (Mm) (< 50% of the tumor cells) and signet ring (SR).
