Reducing last-minute cancellations of elective urological surgery-effectiveness of specialist nurse preoperative assessment.

Last-minute cancellations in urological surgery are a global issue, resulting in the wastage of resources and delays to patient care. In addition to non-cessation of anticoagulants and inadequately treated medical comorbidities, untreated urinary tract infections are a significant cause of last-minute cancellations. This study aimed to ascertain whether the introduction of a specialist nurse clinic resulted in a reduction of last-minute cancellations of elective urological surgery as part of our elective recovery plan following the Coronavirus disease 2019, the contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 or SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Zinner Syndrome: Ipsilateral Renal Agenesis and Seminal Vesicle Cyst Presenting With Bony Metastasis.

Zinner syndrome is a rare congenital triad of mesonephric duct abnormality encompassing unilateral renal agenesis or dysgenesis, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst, and ejaculatory duct obstruction. Literature has reported 214 cases, with the most common presentation being lower urinary tract symptoms and abdominal pain. Most cases are incidentally diagnosed, and MRI has been the choice of radiological diagnosis.

Seminoma presented as testicular rupture: Case report and literature review.

Rupture of the testis as a result of blunt trauma is rarely seen in daily urological practice. We report an unusual case of incidental seminoma diagnosed after surgical exploration and subsequent orchidectomy of a severed testis following testicular injury as a result of trivial blunt trauma. This case highlights the inability of investigative tools, such as a scrotal ultrasound, in distinguishing an underlying tumour in the presence of testicular parenchymal damage.

Self-insertion of foreign bodies into the urethra and urinary bladder for autoerotic stimulation is a rather rare urological emergency condition. We present a case of 41-year-old lady who self-inserted a crochet needle into the urethra for sexual pleasure, which was successfully retrieved during examination under general anaesthetic and endoscopic bladder evaluation. Foreign bodies in the urinary bladder are rarely encountered yet represent a urological challenge that requires prompt management in view of possible sequellae if left untreated.

The inadequacy of urinary dipstick and microscopy as surrogate markers of urinary tract infection in urological outpatients with lower urinary tract symptoms without acute frequency and dysuria.
