Background: Urtica dioica (Urticaceae) has outstanding medicinal and pharmacological properties. This investigation was aimed to assess the chemical composition, the total polyphenol and flavonoid content, antioxidant, anti-proliferative, and anti-inflammatory effects of Urtica dioica essential oil (UDEO)

Methods: GC/MS analysis was performed to assess the chemical composition, standard antioxidative test, the DPPH assay, the reducing power assay, as well as the anti-proliferative capacities of UDEO against HeLa cell lines using the MTT test. In addition, the anti-inflammatory activities of UDEO were evaluated using paw thickness measurements in rats with carrageenan-induced paw edema and pathologic evaluation of inflammation in paw sections.

This study investigated the druggability, pharmacokinetics and ethyl acetate extract of (EA ) and the protective effect against carbon tetrachloride (CCl) induced liver cirrhosis in rats. The total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and scavenging activity of the extract were examined. The in vivo protective study was based on the use of an animal model of CCl-induced liver cirrhosis.

This study is aimed to elucidate the possible antioxidant and protective effects of essential oil (ACEO) against the deleterious effects of chlorpyrifos (CPF) in rats. The study revealed increases in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities and the serum contents of creatinine, urea, uric acid, cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoproteins (LDL), and glucose in rats treated with CPF as compared to controls. Meanwhile, hepatic and renal activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in liver and kidney decreased and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased.

Enzymatic thornback ray () muscle hydrolysates have been shown to have antioxidant and antihypertensive activities . The Neutrase hydrolysate exhibited the highest activities, so it was investigated along with the undigested muscle to test their hypolipidemic, antioxidative and fertility effects in rats fed with a high-cholesterol diet (HCD). Animals were allocated into four groups of 5 rats each: a normal diet group (control), a HCD group, and two groups of HCD with a daily dose of undigested muscle (Und) or the hydrolysate (MH) at 0.

Artemisia campestris (Asteraceae) is widely used in traditional medicine in Southern Tunisia as a decoction for its antivenom, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, and antimicrobial activities. A. campestris essential oil (ACEO) was obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts, since it has beneficial and therapeutic effects.

This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of Teucrium polium (TP) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl) induced spleen, erythrocyte's oxidative stress, and genotoxicity in rats. TP was found to contain large amounts of polyphenols (150 mg GAE/G of dry plant) and flavonoids (60 mg QE/g of quercetin dry plant). The CCl (0.

Kalach 360 SL (KL), glyphosate (G) surfactant-based herbicides, is a systemic herbicide effective against weeds. It was applied in agriculture in Tunisia and throughout the world, which can represent a risk to non-target organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate the morphological and biochemical aspects of ovary injury after exposure to KL.

Environmental pollution is a great concern worldwide. Our aim was to investigate the histopathological injuries and oxidative stress induced by exposure to contaminants in liver tissues of hybrid sparrows (Passer domesticus × Passer hispaniolensis) living in Gabès city, which is one of the most polluted hot spot in Tunisia. Our results show evidence of a pronounced impairment in liver function which is confirmed by histopathological changes as well as remarkable blood chemical alterations in sparrows living near the Gabès-Ghannouche factory complex of phosphate treatment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of Teucrium polium (TP). Rats were divided into four groups: group 1 controls received standard diet; group 2 inflamed by carrageenan (Carr) (1% Carr); group 3 as reference inflamed with Carr and treated with Indometacine (Ind) (150 mg/kg bw) and group 4 inflamed with Carr and pre0treated with TP (5 g/L). Oedema volume was measured 1 h to 5 h after injection.
