The de Bruijn Graph algorithm (DBG) as one of the cornerstones algorithms in short read assembly has extended with the rapid advancement of the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and low-cost production of millions of high-quality short reads. Erroneous reads, non-uniform coverage, and genomic repeats are three major problems that influence the performance of short read assemblers. To encounter these problems, the iterative DBG algorithm applies multiple [Formula: see text]-mers instead of a single [Formula: see text]-mer, by iterating the DBG graph over a range of [Formula: see text]-mer sizes from the minimum to the maximum.

Background: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is the gold standard for surgical management of descending thoracic aortic pathology. Depending on the anatomy, TEVAR often requires deployment across the origin of the left subclavian artery (LSA) to obtain a proximal seal, thus potentially compromising perfusion to the left upper extremity (LUE). However, in most patients this is generally well tolerated without revascularization due to collateralization from the left vertebral artery (LVA).

Article Synopsis
  • - Halofuginone, derived from a traditional Chinese herb, shows promise in reducing pulmonary hypertension (HPH) by inducing pulmonary vasodilation and affecting calcium channels in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs).
  • - Experiments demonstrated that halofuginone enhances potassium (K) currents and inhibits calcium entry in PASMCs, which contributes to its ability to reverse hypoxia-induced pulmonary vasoconstriction and established pulmonary hypertension in mice.
  • - The findings suggest that the therapeutic effects of halofuginone may stem from its dual action of relaxing blood vessels and inhibiting cell growth, potentially through interference with specific signaling pathways (PI3K/Akt/mTOR).

Introduction: A diode laser is one of the universally compact accepted laser systems used fundamentally for soft tissue applications. Most diode laser devices have a single wavelength of either 810 nm for superior coagulation or 980 nm for tissue ablation. In these case series, the use of dual wavelengths (810 nm and 980 nm) in combination with super pulsing has provided a cleaner cut (no charring) with faster healing that eases the placement of the final restoration in the esthetic zone.

Platelet-derived growth factor is one of the major growth factors found in human and mammalian serum and tissues. Abnormal activation of platelet-derived growth factor signaling pathway through platelet-derived growth factor receptors may contribute to the development and progression of pulmonary vascular remodeling and obliterative vascular lesions in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. In this study, we examined the expression of platelet-derived growth factor receptor isoforms in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle and pulmonary arterial endothelial cells and investigated whether platelet-derived growth factor secreted from pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell or pulmonary arterial endothelial cell promotes pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell proliferation.
