We present a determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vub| based on the analysis of semileptonic B decays from a sample of 88 x 10(6) Gamma(4S) decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- storage ring. Charmless semileptonic B decays are selected using measurements of the electron energy and the invariant mass squared of the electron-neutrino pair. We obtain |Vub| =(3.

We find no evidence for these states and set 95% confidence level upper limits on the number of Theta(1540)(+) and Xi(5)(1860)(--) pentaquarks produced per e(+)e(-) annihilation into qq and Gamma(4S) decay. For qq events the Theta(1540)(+) [Xi(5)(1860)(--)] limit is about 8 [4] times lower than the rates measured for ordinary baryons of similar mass.

CD14-mediated signaling following LPS stimulation of monocytic cells results in the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines. Our results show that LPS-induced CD14 expression on monocytic cells may be mediated by endogenously produced IL-10.

The measurements use a data sample of about 227 x 10(6) upsilon(4S) --> BB decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. The amplitude of the CPasymmetry, sin2beta in the standard model, is derived from decay-time distributions from events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0 from its decay products.

Objectives: The aim of this analysis was to evaluate our results of open surgery on the descending thoracic aorta as benchmark to define indications for endovascular treatment.
Methods: Between January 1981 and December 2000, 115 patients underwent replacement of the descending or thoraco-abdominal aorta. Follow-up to 20 years was complete in 98%.

Background: There is insufficient data on short- and especially long-term prognosis of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT).
Methods: In 79 consecutive patients, we analyzed factors for acute death and functional outcome at hospital discharge and after 6 months as well as long-term prognosis >/=12 months. Neurological deficits were graded on the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), functional outcome on the modified Rankin Scale (mRS).
