Bright daylight has various positive influences, such as the long-term synchronization of circadian rhythms and an associated alertness that creates optimal conditions for attentional performance. However, the short-term effects of light on attention have not yet been sufficiently researched. Studies of these short-term effects on selective attention also showed partly contradictory effects.

Background: Hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES) are defined as hypereosinophilia with eosinophil-related clinical manifestations, some of which overlap in presentation with asthma, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and/or chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. Dupilumab is approved to treat these conditions but can induce a transient rise in the absolute eosinophil count and rare eosinophil-related complications.

Objective: To determine whether eosinophil-related complications of dupilumab are increased in HES.

In response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, state and local mental health authorities rapidly developed and disseminated guidance to community mental health agencies. While tailored communication is effective to reach target audiences under usual circumstances, strategies to facilitate the implementation of guidance amidst a rapidly evolving public health emergency are not well understood. This project sought to understand factors informing decision-making about adaptations to guidance, and strategies used to disseminate and facilitate guidance implementation among system-level community partners in OnTrackNY Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) programs for early psychosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess the frequency and characteristics of different phenotypes of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women with infertility, over a period from August 2022 to January 2023 in Peshawar, Pakistan.
  • - Out of 662 patients, 59.76% were diagnosed with PCOS, with the most common phenotype being A (58.2%), followed by D (23.3%), C (16.9%), and B (1.7%).
  • - Significant differences were noted in the LH/FSH ratio among the phenotypes, particularly for phenotype A, indicating a potential hormonal imbalance associated with this variant.

Approximately 25% of newly diagnosed AML patients display an internal tandem duplication (ITD) in the fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) gene. Although both multi-targeted and FLT3 specific tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are being utilized for clinical therapy, drug resistance, short remission periods, and high relapse rates are challenges that still need to be tackled. RNA interference (RNAi), mediated by short interfering RNA (siRNA), presents a mechanistically distinct therapeutic platform with the potential of personalization due to its gene sequence-driven mechanism of action.

Introduction: Maternal positioning during labor significantly influences maternal comfort. This study aims to identify the preferred maternal lateral position during the latent phase and examine the impact of alignment between maternal lateralization and fetal spine positioning during the active phase of the first stage of labor on maternal comfort.

Methods: Pregnant women in the first stage of labor beyond 37 weeks of gestation were recruited over six months from March to August 2020 for this prospective cohort study at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia.

Recycling gold from electronic waste offers significant benefits for both environmental protection and resource sustainability. However, this process presents considerable challenges due to high costs, prolonged processing times, and interference from coexisting metals. In this study, we synthesized a hybrid mesoporous nanocomposite comprising platelets-like CoNiS incorporated with g-CN nanosheets (CoNiS@g-CN) for the selective recovery of gold (Au(iii)) ions from spent computer motherboards.

Background: The dramatic increase of antimicrobial resistance in the healthcare realm has become inexorably linked to the abuse of antibiotics over the years. Therefore, this study seeks to identify potential postbiotic metabolites derived from lactic acid bacteria such as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum that could exhibit antimicrobial properties against multi-drug resistant pathogens.

Results: In the present work, the genome sequence of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum PA21 consisting of three contigs was assembled to a size of 3,218,706 bp.

Despite high vaccination rates globally, countries are still grappling with new COVID infections, and patients diagnosed as mild dying at home during outpatient treatment. Hence, this study aim to identify, then validate, biomarkers that could predict if newly infected COVID-19 patients would subsequently require hospitalization or could recover safely with medication as outpatients. Serum cytokine/chemokine data from 129 COVID-19 patients within 7 days after the onset of symptoms in Bangladesh were used as training data.

This paper provides a dataset that thoroughly explores online impulsive buying behavior, offering a comparative analysis between Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) users and non- Buy Now Pay Later users in Indonesia. Utilizing the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) model, the research investigates the nuanced interplay of external stimuli, cognitive and emotional responses, and resulting in impulsive purchasing behaviour. The dataset, derived from a detailed survey of 810 online consumers, unveils distinctive patterns in the impulsive buying behaviors of these two user groups, shedding light on the impact of Buy Now Pay Later stimuli on consumer decision-making.

In this study, gold-reduced graphene oxide (Au@rGO) nanocomposite has been synthesized by repurposing electronic waste and dry batteries. This innovative approach involved utilizing the graphite rod from dry batteries to produce reduced graphene oxide (rGO), which was subsequently modified through the incorporation of gold nanoparticles obtained from recycled electronic waste. This methodology marks a significant breakthrough in electronic waste recycling, presenting a cost-effective and sustainable means of creating novel nanocomposites for applications in photocatalysis and adsorption, particularly in the removal of crystal violet (CV) from aqueous media.

Introduction: Chorioamnionitis is the inflammation of the placenta and is histologically defined as the presence of neutrophilic infiltration into the chorio-amnion membrane with and without involvement of the umbilical cord. Currently, the inflammatory mediators involved in the eliciting of inflammatory response is still largely under investigation. CD47 and CD36 are pro-inflammatory molecules that are still under investigation.

Exogenous carbon (C) inputs stimulate soil organic carbon (SOC) decomposition, strongly influencing atmospheric concentrations and climate dynamics. The direction and magnitude of C decomposition depend on the C and nitrogen (N) addition, types and pattern. Despite the importance of decomposition, it remains unclear whether organic C input affects the SOC decomposition under different N-types (Ammonium Nitrate; AN, Urea; U and Ammonium Sulfate; AS).

Article Synopsis
  • Episodic angioedema with eosinophilia (EAE) is a rare condition causing recurrent episodes of swelling, muscle pain, fatigue, and fever, with unclear origins and a pattern of cyclic symptoms occurring every 3 to 8 weeks.
  • A pilot study evaluated the effectiveness of mepolizumab, a treatment aimed at reducing eosinophils, by analyzing its impact on symptom severity and eosinophil counts in patients with EAE.
  • The study found that while mepolizumab successfully lowered eosinophil counts in participants, it did not significantly alleviate their clinical symptoms, indicating a need for further research on treatment options for EAE.

Theories of attention hypothesize the existence of an attentional template that contains target features in working or long-term memory. It is frequently assumed that the template contains a veridical copy of the target, but recent studies suggest that this is not true when the distractors are linearly separable from the target. In such cases, target representations shift "off-veridical" in response to the distractor context, presumably because doing so is adaptive and increases the representational distinctiveness of targets from distractors.

Introduction: Maternal prenatal psychological stress is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes and increased risk of adverse health outcomes in children. While the molecular mechanisms that govern these associations has not been fully teased apart, stress-induced changes in placental function can drive sex-specific phenotypes in offspring. We sought to identify and examine molecular pathways in the placenta that are altered in response to maternal prenatal stress.
