Breast cancer, emerging malignancy is common among women due to overexpression of estrogen. Estrogens are biosynthesized from androgens by aromatase, a cytochrome P450 enzyme complex, and play a pivotal role in stimulating cell proliferation. Therefore, deprivation of estrogen by blocking aromatase is considered as the effective way for the inhibition and treatment of breast cancer.

Association of Urinary Albumin:Creatinine Ratio with Outcome of Children with Sepsis.

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the association of urinary albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR) with regard to the outcome of sepsis patients and to study the trends of ACR with severity of disease, organ dysfunction, microcirculation status, the use of inotrope, and mechanical ventilation use, and length of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) stay.

Materials And Methods: In the prospective observational study, the patients with varying categories of sepsis admitted in the PICU with stay >24 hours were enrolled consecutively. Urine samples were collected at the time of admission (ACR1), 12 hours (ACR2), and 24 hours (ACR3).

Neurological manifestations of COVID-19: A brief review.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been predominantly a respiratory manifestation. Currently, with evolving literature, neurological signs are being increasingly recognized. Studies have reported that SARS-CoV-2 affects all aspects of the nervous system including the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral nervous system (PNS) and the muscular system as well.

Luminescent behavior of cadmium sulfide quantum dots for gallic acid estimation.

Thioglycolic acid capped cadmium sulfide (CdS/T) quantum dots have been synthesized using wet chemistry and their optical behavior has been investigated using UV-visible absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The role of the capping agent, sulfide source concentration, pH and temperature has been studied and discussed. Studies showed that alkaline pH leads to a decrease in the size of quantum dots and reflux temperature above 70 °C resulted in red-shift of emission spectra which is due to narrowing of the bandgap.

FDA recommendations for preclinical testing of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues.

Relationships between fertility and production in the first three lactations were investigated for 97,368 daughters of 3806 sires in 22,768 herd-hear-seasons of calving. Fertility traits were days from calving to first insemination, number of inseminations per conception, and days open.

Jurisprudential inquiry model: a must for teaching nursing ethics.

How can nursing students learn to utilize ethics, morals, and values in their everyday nursing practice? This article describes an innovative instructional approach, the Jurisprudential Inquiry Model. This model will establish a process of ethical decision-making that can be used in solving ethical dilemmas encountered in professional nursing practice. The Jurisprudential Model provides a developmental framework for the analysis of ethical issues in nursing practice through infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old-age.

Effect of nutritional status on propylthiouracil-induced protection against acetaminophen hepatotoxicity in the rat.

The effect of pair feeding of euthyroid rats compared with propylthiouracil (PTU) treated rats on acetaminophen (APAP)-induced hepatotoxicity was studied. Also, the effect of food deprivation of both the euthyroid and PTU-induced hypothyroid rats for 24 h, as well as forced feeding of the euthyroid rats after a toxic dose of APAP, was determined. Pair feeding decreased both protein and energy intake compared with ad libitum-fed controls and resulted in decreased growth rate similar to that for the PTU treated rats.

Possible role of pancreatic insulin and glucagon in the hyperlipidemia and obesity of obese strain of chicken.

Circulating levels of insulin, glucagon, thyroid hormones as well as lipid levels were determined in an obese strain of chicken and their lean controls. Hepatic and muscle glycogen and lipids were also measured. Obese birds had higher plasma lipids accompanied by significantly higher insulin and lower glucagon levels compared to lean controls.

Propylthiouracil-induced hypothyroid hyperlipidemic chick: a model for clofibrate-induced toxicity.

An animal model for clinically observed clofibrate (p-chlorophenoxy isobutyrate, CPIB)-induced toxicity has been tested. It is demonstrated that propylthiouracil-induced hypothyroid-hyperlipidemic chick develops severe toxic manifestations following clofibrate administration. Toxic symptoms are characterized by listlessness, drowziness, and extreme muscular weakness.

Failure of exogenous prostaglandin to afford complete protection against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in the rat.

The protective effect of 16, 16-dimethylprostaglandin E2 (dm-PGE2) against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity was determined in the rat. The dm-PGE2 was administered at two dose levels both before and after acetaminophen administration. The hepatotoxicity was evaluated by a rise in serum transaminases 24 h after acetaminophen administration and by histological examination of liver preparations.

Inhibitory effect of propylthiouracil-induced hypothyroidism in rat on oxidative drug metabolism.

The effect of propylthiouracil (PTU) pretreatment on in vivo and in vitro oxidative drug metabolism was determined in the rat. Whereas pentobarbital sleeping time (PBST) and zoxazolamine paralysis time (ZZPT) were used as indices of in vivo drug metabolizing activity, biotransformation of aminopyrine and aniline by hepatic microsomal preparations were used as indices of in vitro drug metabolizing enzymes activities. PTU pretreatment significantly prolonged both PBST and ZZPT.

Lack of relationship between plasma insulin and glucagon levels and angiographically-documented coronary atherosclerosis.

In 120 consecutive patients undergoing diagnostic coronary arteriography, fasting blood glucose, plasma insulin, glucagon, serum cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations were measured. The insulin-glucose ratio and insulin-glucagon ratio were calculated. Forty-five patients had normal coronary arteries, 19 had single vessel coronary artery disease and 56 patients had multiple vessel disease.
