Objective: To determine correlation of important biochemical laboratory investigations in different trauma patients and their degree of injury severity and overall mortality association.
Methods: In this hospital based retrospective observational study, 238 trauma patients were divided into two groups. Group I with injury severity score (ISS)<16 and group II with ISS>16.
ZnO/γ-FeO heterostructure has been deposited in the form of thin films using a single step facile electrochemical technique. Considering the unique properties of both ZnO and γ-FeO toward the sensing of reducing gases, the concept of forming a heterostructure between them has been conceived. The structural characterization of the deposited material has been performed using X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, which revealed a flowerlike morphology with the coexistence of both ZnO and γ-FeO leading to the formation of a heterostructure.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMetal oxide semiconductors have been extensively used as reducing gas sensors with major limitations regarding selectivity and operating temperature which is relatively high for most of the cases making the device unusable in some critical situations. Higher operating temperature is also associated with the higher power consumption, which goes against the miniaturization of the device. In order to resolve these problems, here we introduced a ZnO/ZnO2 straddling 'n-N' isotype heterostructure as a highly selective and sensitive methane sensor at moderately low operating temperature.

Materials And Methods: In a prospective study consisting 400 pregnant women (8-12 weeks pregnant) were screened for their thyroid profile and followed-up to 12 weeks postpartum. Patients with abnormal thyroid function at 12 weeks postpartum were further followed-up with repeated assessment of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and serum-free thyroxine-4 levels at 8 weeks interval up to 12 months postpartum.
Objective: Emergence agitation (EA), a short-lived, self-limiting phenomenon, arises frequently after the use of inhalational agents and hampers the implementation of pediatric ambulatory surgery in spite of using so many drugs with variable efficacy.
Methods: In this prospective, double-blinded, parallel group study (2008-2009), 80 children of both sex aged 3-7 years, with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status grade I-II, undergoing sevoflurane-based general anesthesia for elective day care surgery were randomly assigned into groups C or D. Group C received 4 μg/kg intranasal clonidine, whereas group D received 1 μg/kg intranasal dexmedetomidine, 45 min before induction of anesthesia.

Aim: To evaluate the stillbirth rate, its major demographic and obstetric risk factors and its trend in a referral teaching hospital.
Material And Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional retrospective study of stillbirths was done among all deliveries over a decade from January 1999 to December 2008. The stillbirth rate and its changing trends over 10years were evaluated and its associated risk factors were also assessed.
